Mp3 Hdd
What ever happened to the 4GB HDD that played MP3 files for the new LS ?? I remember it being mentioned in the press conference .. doesn't look like that feature made it to production, either ??

The LWB model comes with a NAV system which is hard drive based, and includes an extra 8GB of space to store music files. I believe they can be ripped at either 128k or 256k, theoretically allowing you to store up to 2000 songs.
The SWB model comes with DVD based navigation, similar to the previous generation LS. It is slower and does not offer the ability to store music. Another good reason to go with the LWB model.

One FANTASTIC feature of the car is the ability to "flash" Nav updates very quickly; I have heard that if you're in a for another service this update might even be free! Which will make customers for life of us former BMW and Mercedes owners, who are (I think) insulted by the companies Nav Disc subscription programs...

I think when you add the Mark Lev audio system to the HDD navigation, regardless it is a LS460 or LS460L, you do get the 8GB of MP3 storage on the HDD. In the other word, you need the Mark Lev. to have the feature. Correct me please if I am wrong. Thanks!

That is what I read here:
http://www.lexus.com/models/LS/detai...fications.html
There is HDD NAVI on both LS 460 and LS 460 L, only on the former it is an option and on the latter it is standard I believe. But there is no longer a DVD NAVI for any LS sedan.

Could be a typo
It could just be a typo on the Lexus web site, but try doing a vehicle comparison between the 460 and 460L. The 460 is described as DVD based navigation, while the 460L is described as hard drive based navigation.
I agree that it would not make sense to offer the Mark Levinson sound system on the SWB model but still keep the navigation DVD based. Hopefully someone that has more info can clarify whether this is just a typo.

everywhere i read it says hdd nav. only place where it says dvd is the dvd changer
i was under the impression that the whole nav system on the new LS is hdd based. the reason is it's faster and has a bigger storage. it doesn't make sense for lexus to hold 2 different systems on the same car?

Lexus web site is far from perfect too. The GS450h has 12.7cu.ft trunk space according to the web site.
