I think in the case with mags, it is pretty simple - reviewer sees maximum torque at 4k, hence car does no have any torque before... which would be true if we were talking about 4cly engines and not V8's :-).
Yea I can agree with that. I for one questioned why it made it so high. But now seeing the power tq curves I understand.

It is truely a great engine. Im loving what I am seeing.

When I have too much money to spare in a few years, I will do this swap with the 5.0 liter engine.

Close, a bone stock S600.

It's not the best video, but this is the one that illustrates the growl/roar of the new V8 engine ... kind of refreshing to hear an LS growl like that

about the comment on "lack of tq", i guess maybe it' has to do with the weight as well. here we are talking about engine output solely, however we shouldn't forget the fact that the new ls is about 400lb heavier than the previous one. that's pretty big difference
As spywolf stated, even with increased weight, the new LS has better power to weight ratio, and also the 8 speed transmission which offsets the weight gain.

Uhhh ... the LS460 isn't competing with exotics or super limited prestige models.

The LS460 competes with 750i, and S550, among other cars. Those are it's direct competitors. This is the smallest displacement engine among these 3 cars, yet it's the most fuel efficient, makes more HP and torque than BMW's 4.8L V8 engine, and it very close to the 5.5L Benz V8 in terms of HP and torque. Furthermore, the 5.0L Lexus V8 will beat the Benz engine in HP, torque, and fuel economy, despite the smaller displacement.

Lexus will have plenty to brag about with the LS600h, and the upcoming Lexus supercar.

Yes to the LS600hL, but we arent talking about that hybrid model which uses the 5.0L engine. Only the standard 4.6L engine.

As for the hybrid model, we do not know official specs at all on that engine.

The S600 is an exotic super limited prestige model?
Then what's the S65?

My mistake, I should've compared this to the S550, my mistake.

No, the S600 is not "exotic" per se, but it *is* a very limited prestige model. Honestly, how many S600s do you see on the road? Or go ahead and look at S600 sales, they are extremely small, and that is to be expected with car that has 140K base price.

S600 has bi-turbo V12 engine, and has the fuel economy of a Hummer. Certainly not competition for the LS460.

Because engines and economy are all that defines competition.
My bad, I keep thinkin' we're talking about the flagship Lexus to the not-flagship Mercedes.

It seems you do not see the differentiation, but I will not try and change your flawed opinion.

If you want to compare the S600 to something, at least compare it to the flagship LS600h when it comes out, not the standard LS460.

So we're comparing the flagship Benz to a Flagship Lexus that hasn't come out yet? Let's do more comparisons. No offense to anyone, but let's play that game:

What does Lexus have anyway? Oh yeah, just a 288 HP SC430. Wow, that like totally sucks. I think I'll rather buy a Ford Mustang with the stage 3 Roush package. It makes more power than the SC for sure, it must be better! I mean, it has more Torque for sure!!!!! And it isn't even Ford's flagship, which is the GT! How pathetic must that be for Lexus???!!!! Does Lexus realize that Ford has a better car then them because it has more torque? I mean, they must be raking in a ton of profit because they make powerful cars!

Toyota use to make the Supras, but a stock Supra can't beat a stock Corvette Z06!!!! How dumb is Toyota anyway? Chevy/GM makes more powerful cars which means they are kicking ***, unlike Toyota!

I mean, what's the point of buying a Ferrari Enzo anyway? Couldn't you, like, buy, like, a Dodge Neon SRT4, for 1/25th the price, put about $50k into it's performance, and smoke the Enzo silly? How stupid must Ferrari be? Do they, like, know that?

You know, I think I should trade in my Lexus for a Yugo. With all that left over cash, I could make my Yugo faster than a Viper!!!! That means I'm better!!!!
