LS460 achieves average 25.4 mpg
Lexus claims 25.4 mpg for LS460 at British Motor Show. That's impressive!
If real-world number falls to 20 mpg ... still very impressive

That's phenomenal for a big car like that...and outstanding for that type of displacement to boot. Hopefully the EPA ratings will be close to that.

right, so that should be an average for city/highway... not bad at all.
Compared to GS430's rating of 24.8 MPG in Britain, it seems quite nice - they managed to lower the consumption of GS, let alone LS, despite added 100hp and definetly more weight for the car overall.
It is also slightly better than 750i's 24.8 mpg and considerably batter to more comparable S500 which gets 24.1 MPG.
Compared to GS430's rating of 24.8 MPG in Britain, it seems quite nice - they managed to lower the consumption of GS, let alone LS, despite added 100hp and definetly more weight for the car overall.
It is also slightly better than 750i's 24.8 mpg and considerably batter to more comparable S500 which gets 24.1 MPG.

WIth LS430 and LS460, you're comparing DOHC V8 to DOHC V8, so it's a more similar comparison, and plus, the LS430 was already one of the most efficient V8 sedans out there. To see a 100HP increase, and still see economy rise, not to mention the engine achieve ULEV-II, I would say is impressive.
I predict that EPA ratings may be 19/26 for the LS460, or if very optimistic, 20/27.
