New LS460 will parallel park itself
I can't believe it. The LS460 coming out in fthe fall will have a feature where it will be
able to parallel park itself.
"Drivers need never again worry about tricky parallel parking manoeuvres. Lexus is about to import a car that will park itself at the touch of a button. The LS460 will be the first car in Australia with a self-parking computer."

This article is about Aust. but I read in local paper this was coming to USA in fall
Also upgraded to 380 hp.
I sure hope they treat the GS to this stuff.
How in the world can they build something that can park itself.

Interesting ...but a complete waste of money. Parallel parking is a basic driving skill and those who are unable to do it should either learn how or find another place to park straight in.
I'd rather see Lexus develop some type of hidden system that deploys around the entire car to protect the bumpers and body from the idiots who don't know how to park or the one who "fling" their doors wide open..

I can see the sensors easily detecting a curb so the car knows when to turn the wheel and such, but if there are no cars in front or behind you how will the self parking system know where to position the car? Will it be able to detect the parking stall lines like are typical for metered stalls? Will the car align itself correctly with the curb, but keep on reversing until it detects another car or obstruction behind it? Just wondering how this system will work and how practical it really would be in everyday use. Cool technology though
