Smart key question
its a 2005 LS. The battery in both keys were replaced today, but I have a problem ...
With new batteries, neither key for will open the locked car, or lock the car. Yes the batteries are inserted with the +ve side up as shown in the Owners Manual
To open the locked car I need to insert the metal key in the outside lock.
Once inside the car, I can not just turn the ignition to start the car. I must put the plastic part of the key into the ignition in order to turn the switch and start the car.
Any ideas on how to resolve this ?
Thanks

If the remote works before the battery change, and you still have the old battery, try put the old battery back in and see if you can get the door to lock/unlock remotely. If so, you either purchased the wrong battery or picked up a bad one. Since you can start your car with the FOB in the ignition, it suggests that the car still recognizes the FOB.
Another question - when you press a button on your FOB, do you see a red light on the FOB flash?

When you press the panic button on the fob does the horn start sounding? If not the battery is installed incorrectly or the battery is dead or not correct type. Like others suggested try reinstalling old battery.

Nope, the red light does not appear. It used to when the fob worked properly.
Checked and the battery is installed correctly and is correct type. It may be faulty. I will double check and maybe replace with other new batteries later tonight
Thanks everyone

Hummm... Very useful feedback, Stu...
According to the technical manual, the FOB holds 3 security codes, as described below
The "immobilizer code" allows you to unlock the steering column and turn the ignition.
The "smart code" let the car knows that you're nearby which will do things like turn on the puddle light and allow you to touch the inside of the door handle to unlock the door. Does your FOB do these functions?
The "wireless code" allows the remote push buttons to operate (door, trunk, panic button, etc.)
I think we can say that you installed the battery correctly, although it may be too weak to fully power the FOB.
No red light when you push a button on the FOB is troublesome. Please try to remove the FOB cartridge from the casing and push the buttons directly to see if you see a flash of red light. You may have a defective FOB casing. See photo below:
