Default Need help- transmission pan clunk from R to P

2001 LS430 135k Did trans pan gasket today since I had a leak. Replaced filter while I was in there, and also bumped up the pressure selector on the valve body as mentioned on another posting to the 3rd notch as a free mod. The rubber gasket that came with the filter went back in place of FIPG. I replaced the pan and put 2 quarts in it, and then disconnected the drivers side trans coolant hose to pump out the old fluid. After exchanging one quart at a time and top off with T-IV I test drove. When moving selector from reverse to park a metallic thud/clunk is heard underneath the car. It's much different than the normal clicking of the selector. the ONLY time this noise is heard is when going from reverse to park. It sounds like someone taps once on the pan with a combination wrench. Kind of a hollow sound. It wasn't making this noise before the drain and filter swap. Shifts great through all gears at both part and WOT. I'm wondering what this could be. I didnt mess with anything else in the valve body and made sure the small metal piece was in place on the shift firmness adjuster. Could the parking pawl be hitting side of the pan or something? It does go into park and feels like it did before. I'd be very appreciative if one of you Lexus shop techs could point me in the right direction.

SInce that adjustment pawl can increase pressure in the Valve Body, I wonder if that is causing the noise? Not sure what else would do it, since that's the only thing that was adjusted....

Default Solved!

I put the car on the neighbors lift and had someone in the car shifting it back and forth with the car off. It turns out that the shift linkage was hitting the heat shielding around the trans tunnel. It must have happened trying to break the pan seal death grip of FIPG with a putty knife and thin pry bar. After some gentle persuasion of that shield to get some clearance it is fixed! Shifts great!

Good job finding the source of the problem. By the way what is this "bumped up the pressure selector on the valve body as mentioned on another posting to the 3rd notch as a free mod" that you speak of?
