Default Installing a Resonator

Will installing an aftermarket resonator make the stock exhaust even quieter? Long story short I had a Toyota 4Runner in which I installed Spectrum Sludge, Luxury Liner Pro and Damplifier Pro on every single piece of metal I could find and the truck had zero exhaust noise, even when flooring it.

Rather than do all of that, if I was to install just a resonator will it make the exhaust have even less noise? If so, what kind of resonator should I get and where on the exhaust system should it be mounted?

You want to make the stock system more quiet? It's already very quiet as it is. You may have an exhaust leak or modifications done. There are 3 stock resonators. Adding additional resonators will restrict your airflow.

I think with the LS you've pretty much hit a wall in terms of muffling exhaust noise.

If you have an exhaust that maybe someone put in aftermarket and is droning, it would probably be a good place to start. Otherwise I think you're spinning your wheels to chase being 1% quieter.

I did have a truck that I bought and it just had catalytic converters from the previous owner, straight pipes after the cats. It sounded beautiful, but it just droned and was too much. I had an inexpensive resonator welded in that was like $25 and it made a huge difference. Still sounded great also.

But if you're talking a stock exhaust, I think it would be a mistake to mess with it if your priority is "quiet". It could even make it worse as you can have some strange droning noises when you add new restrictions.
