I've been through this a couple of times already (2001 LS430, 133K miles). The Lexus key/case costs $90, and it is basically a new key shank and a new plastic shell. For the $90, they cut the key to spec and install your RKE (remote keyless entry) transmitter into it. Good as new.

For a few $$ more, they also have a Lexus-certified after-market key that is supposed to be even stronger and not crack as easily as the standard Lexus part.

I did this about 2 years ago, Picked up the ones from ebay (a set was $9.95 shipped), took them to a GOOD locksmith at a hardware store (took me to call about 2-3 places to find someone who can do that type of key),

They charged $15 per key to cut them, cut both, $43 (tax) after everything, 2 years later the ebay keys work fine and I know I can get replacements for about $25-30 each... The transmitter is just one screw and it pops right out (had to change the battery a few times)

I only keep one key (my wife just takes my keys when she needs my car), so my spare is at home, even if this one breaks now after about 2 years, I have a spare, it will be almost 4 years before needing a new key...

$90 a key? Yea, I cant tell the difference from the ebay keys....I'll go that way...

Default Lexus Key Replacement

Don't waste your time buying junk key replacements ANYWHERE. Replace your Lexus key with an Eternity Key. See them on www.eternitykey.com. I replaced both of mine with them. They are guaranteed for life....I think. No more broken keys. I got mine by driving down to Sewell in Dallas. They sell the key and cut it complete for $89 as I remember. My brother got his done too. You might find a vendor closer to you. Check the Eternity Key site above.

I have heard a lot of good things about Eternity Key. I haven't had to replace one of my keys yet, but when I do, I will likely go to them. According to other members, eternity keys are extremely durable and are worth the price premium.

2nd!!!

I went to Park Place Lexus in Grapevine, where they had a demo showing that the blade will bend before the shroud would break. Well worth it! I got mine replaced, for the last time...

+2 on the Eternity Key. I had both of mine replaced for my 2002 and I've been pleased with them. Mine were $69.00 each at the Tulsa, Oklahoma Lexus dealer.
