Default What is the Engine oil capacity for the ls430?

I recently had my engine oil changed at my local garage and brought a 5 quart container of Mobile 1 with a Toyota filter. I have a 2001 LS430. I noticed this morning on level ground it is overfilled. How much oil does the Lexus take and if the tech poured the entire 5 quart container in (which he probably did) how overfilled am I? Should I take it back to empty out the overage or is it an insignificant amount that might burn off? Thoughts? Thanks all.

4.8 quarts with the filter change. Being a fraction of a quart over isn't going to do anything bad, I pour an entire 5 quart jug into mine when I change the oil.

i remember the old days when you stopped at a filling station and the attendant said ,check the oil and he put his thumb at the top of the dipstick and put the stick in and it would be a quart low in the engine.he sold you a quart and dumped it in.every one had too much oil in there engines in those days.

.2 of a quart does not sound like a bid deal. I was actually going out tomorrow to purchase one of those syphon gadgets to suck out the extra oil through the dip stick tube.

I had the same question as I just bought a 2005 that had been dealer maintained. The oil level after sitting overnight was about 1 inch above the top dot (full mark). That's after the dealer changed it 1500 miles ago.

I just changed my own oil Friday and added 5 qts with a Toyota filter. Drove it around the block and let it sit overnight. It was a little over half way up the stick. I added .5 more qts and it still did not get to the full mark. Today I dumped in the last .5 qts and it is about .25 inches over the full mark. So I have concluded to put mine right on the full dot, I should use 5.75 qts. Not gonna do that. I went with 6 qts just like my 98 LS400. Every time the dealer changed the oil for the last 65K, they charged the previous owner for 6 qts. I can't explain why but it seems there is a slight variation in the amount of oil our LS430's take. Some say 4.8, some say 5.5 and I say (LOL) 6....

I wouldn't be slightly concerned about .2 qts extra.

By the way, Is the handle on your dipstick a yellow circle?

I just did mine recently too. I ended up using the full 6 quarts as well. I remember putting in 5 quarts, but after running the engine and checking the level, I noticed that it was significantly low, so I added the extra quart.

Look in the manual... LOL. The 06 LS430 manual states 5.4 quarts with a new oil filter.

Not exactly...My 2005 manual says 4.8 quarts with a filter. If I add 4.8 quarts and change the filter my dipstick will not be near the full mark. 5.5 qts did not put it to the full mark. That's why I just went with a full 6 quarts.

I am looking at my 2006 owners manual as I type and it states 4.8 quarts without filter change and 5.4 quarts with a filter change. Maybe your is different...

My 2005 Owners manual says on back inside cover states 4.4 quarts w/o filter change and 4.8 quarts with with filter change. It's definitely different.

Wow that's weird... LOL. Are you sure that is not Imp quarts? I also know that the last time I did my OCI, it took more then 5 quarts to get it to the top fill line on my oil stick.
