I would like to replace the inner grey piece and outer chrome piece of my shifter base trim. This should be easy and inexpensive. Mine is not bad but why not freshin it up a bit. Have any of u removed these pieces before? How do they come off and where can I get new ones?

Unscrew the shifting ****. Use a bladed screwdriver and pry between the chrome piece and the wood panel. Be sure to put some tape on the blade to prevent damage to the pieces.

Read the manual.....pull the diagram....ya ya ya .....personally I learn a lot better from someone who has done it and put the repair in laymens terms vs reading Americanized Japanese .......Are the 4 clips metal or plastic? Are they brittle? Do they break easily? There could be many little tips that could make this simple repair a success vs a failure. Given great tips from this site I was able to replace my telescoping steering wheel motor which was at first scary as hell...............now could do it in my sleep ya see....

Anyone know the best place to get the parts? I guess start w Sewell?

The ash tray wood lid may not match existing wood knurls. The chrome and shifter insert alone is worth $100 new.

Got it - just trying to help, sorry... Glad I didn't post any diagrams or Americanized Japanese this time!

I love the accessory storage box. If you install one, be sure to swap the wood grain panel from the original ash tray cover so that it matches both the color and burl of the wood on the console. Had Lexus offered just the storage box without the wood grain cover, the list cost of this accessory would be considerably less. (Part # 58810-50020-E0). One thing the storage box is missing though is a light like the ash tray has.

Hey all.....lets see...a few replies to get to.....

RKW....no worries.....we all learn in diff ways...it took me an hour to simply find the correct diagram with part numbers just to order the pieces. And the diagram doesnt mention how do remove the old parts. A good example was the center console storage lid repair.....that was what looked very simple but ended up having a few tricks that were good to know that came from other members.

As for me being super detailed ya well...I have only owned this car for about 8 months and every scratch that I didnt put there bugs me. I was driving the car the other day....it was bright and sunny and the scratches that u cant see in my pics were glaring at me all day. The grey insert has some nicks in it down to the primer. So I thought hey! I bet I could replace those pieces for cheap and it would prob be an easy repair. Ebay came up strong and the parts are on the way. I hope I dont break anything during install.

Little miscommunication regarding the ash trey lid....mine is a 2004....and without going out to the garage I dont think it is really an ash trey....it does have cig lighter in it....but to me its a storage trey. Well my lid to this trey has a deep scratch in the poly finish and that REALLY bugs me....when on craigslist someone was selling just the lid only for $19.00 ....So I have read several times that the wood is hard to match but for 19 I was willing to take the chance....If it doesnt match I will offer it for sale on this site.

Yes the trim pieces I guess were worth 100 alone....I hope the chrome piece is metal....if plastic the price is too high at $56.00....the more detailed piece the grey insert was cheaper at $34.00

The chrome shifter trim is plastic.

Your 2004 is the Gen 4 unit, so no "upgrade" is available. I upgraded my 2001 Nav from Gen 2 to Gen 4.
