Potential buyer here with a few questions
I'm looking at selling my old 1999 GS300 this spring, to upgrade to something newer and with less miles (212k and going strong) I've been looking at LS430s for some time now, and while I love the 04-06 looks wise, I'd probably be able to afford an 01-03 with less miles for the same price, are there any major differences in ride quality? I know the cosmetic changes as well as cooled seats, I've also seen a couple of UL editions in excellent condition with around 150-160k priced very well but I'm really wary of getting a car with air suspension, how long does it usually last or is it kind of random? Any common issues I should look out for, I know these are supposed to be pretty solid cars.

I'm a newbie so I don't know if my answers are 100% correct but from my understanding the '04+ came with a 6 speed transmission which should give you better gas mileage. Also, I don't think all '04+ come with air suspension (at least I hope not). I think the air suspension was only on the UL (Ultra Luxury) models.
Hopefully someone will chime in and let us know if that is true or correct what I'm wrong about.

04-06 had some overall enhancements - most significant in my mind include - outside styling changes to make the LS slightly more sleek, 6 speed transmission, enhanced smart key system, ventilated front seats. Not sure on ride quality between the original and refresh 04-06 - mostly these cars ride super smooth and very quiet but they are boats. Air suspension is a UL only option.

To me, the biggest differences are the appearance (huge step up in the 04-06) and the transmission. I've been looking for one myself and wanted a Custom Luxury as it has the rear seat pass through and no air suspension but still has an upgraded interior. At the same time, I love the features of the UL (rear door sunshades, sliding rear seats) and have been considering setting aside some money to convert the suspension when it starts to fail if I end up with a UL. I've been looking at 05-06 because I don't want a car that is more than 10 years old.

When I had a 430, I went with the 05 for the better looking wheels, the smart key, heated and cooled seats, and better transmission. I got lucky and found one with the Levinson sound system which made the car all that much better. I highly recommend and 05 or 06 if you can work it out.
