Probably would, but you don't have a certain way to make sure someone was drifting in the car. Right, it can become loose you can have trouble in your suspension, tires etc. But almost never can you tell a customer the have been drifting.

But the thing is, most of these cars you see drifting, are not owned by the drivers. They are rented and then given to good drivers (drifter, in this case), sometimes given money along that as well to perform an illegal show like the one in the video ^.

If you search more, you'll see brand new BMW's drifting, and I've also seen a RollsRoyce Ghost drifting once too. They are all rentals.

I love that ding dong chime (00:09). Reminds me of my first maxima I had. Do US versions ever emit the chime?

How do you even get an LS430 to go 160 MPH like that?

I raced my friend's 95 LS400 a long time ago and he hit 150+ with ease. I was surprised that the LS430 is limited to 130 MPH.

Did you notice the gear indicator on the dash say 5 the whole time. I think he put the thing in manual and then just stomped it. Obviously, it is shifting on its own. It is weird how at a complete stop when you go into manual mode it indicates 5th gear. Must be for protecting the transmission or something along those lines.

I was more concerned at the noise when he hit 155mph. If that was me, i would have backed off then. Just sayin

What seems like the number 5 digit, actually represents the letter "S" as in sport. But then if you toggle + or -, it goes in total tiptronic mode.

An LS with no speed limiter is a beautiful thing. I think US versions have 135 mph gov/limiter. Going 160 mph in a car that weighs as much as an LS would certainly be an adventure, particularly if you needed to hit the brakes hard if something got in the way.

He probably held it in 5th gear to squeeze a little bit more power out of the powerband before shifting up to 6th. Unless if he had a 01-03 but the white cluster needles deem it as a 04-06.

wtf? i never heard of that before...once you go into tiptronic mode, it defaults to 5th gear. sport mode is just for the suspension via the height adjustment button iirc.

You are right. I never looked at the terminology in the owners manual. Look on page 305. S mode just enables the shift level to manually select the gears the computer allows. It is not some additional mode. If you don't manually select any gears in S mode, that looks exactly like a 5, it stay in the normal AI mode as they says until you up or downshift.

Yes sir. Therefore it's the S mode, and not 5. Try putting the gear into tiptronic while stationary. It will always show you S. And if you go slower or higher up in speed, the indicator will always show S, and not any number, unless you hit +,- telling the computer I'm overriding your sport mode, let me do my own shifts so get out of the S mode.
