Default Cam Seals LS430

I am getting ready for 2nd TB/Water Pump/pulley replacement 197,000 miles. I see many recommendations to replace Cam Seals as well but have yet to find a tutorial or pictures on how to do these replacements. Does anyone on here know of a thread or procedure on how to replace the cam seals? Thank you,

On the service manual there is no information how to do this. But there is instruction how to replace timing belt. On this instruction there are information how to remove camshaft timing pulleys, crankshaft pulley and crankshaft timing pulley. When you remove this pulleys you will see oil seals. You can use flat screwdriver (there are special tools to do this, but screwdriver should be ok
) to remove it. You must be careful during installing a new one. Please look for proper alignment and remember to use some oil to new oil seals before installation.

To remove pulleys you should have special SST tools or similar.

I wish it were that simple, Owczar. Changing the cam seals on 90-97 is fairly straight-forward as you mention.
However, on later models, I believe it requires removing the camshafts. So, it is much more involved.

Keasum, I do not know of a tutorial specifically for the cam seals on an LS430. However, here is a pretty good thread from a 98 LS400. I think yours would be fairly similar -> http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...98-with-vvt-i/

Don't forget the crank shaft seal too.

You could be right. To change camshaft seal it could be necessary to remove camshafts (VVTI). The same thing you must do during adjusting valve clearance. So you could connect this two maintenance services.

If someone need, I could send for an email manuals how to change timing belt and adjust valve clearance.

it appears as if not too many people have done this job - at least on the forum. from looking at the pics it appears taking the Cam gears off may be a little more hairy than one would think. I will know more after teardown. Do the cam gears come off by taking off what looks like several bolts and slide straight out?

I think the rear main seal is more common then the cam seals.
