Default 2003 LS430 - Replace 80Amp Fusible Link

Hello,

Can someone tell me how to replace the 80amp fusible links in the engine compartment? I know these are screwed down to the fuse box, but I can't figure out how to get access to the screw. I have the complete service manual and it doesn't seem to give instructions on how to do this.

I accidentally ripped the top off the fuse in an attempt to remove it (didn't know it was screwed down). It is now covered with electrical tape.

Thanks!

The fusible block is made up of 2 pieces. They are held together by 4 latches, and the whole assembly is bolted down with 3 bolts. Regarding the 4 latches, the bottom piece has the "male", and the top piece has the "female". To release the latch, pry the outer plastic tap (female) away from the inner plug (male), and push the plug downward. Here are some of the photos to illustrate the steps:

Don't forget to disconnect the negative cable before you start on the bolts attached to the 80A fuse - it's a direct run from the battery and is always hot.

Just changed the fusible link today. Had a hard time separating the bottom cover. Some tips to make it easy:

1) Get two screwdrivers - one to pry the tang back slightly and the other to push down gently on the locking clip.

2) Remove the battery for better access to the back screw. The two screws were different sizes. Front one was 10 mm and the back was 8mm.

3) When removing said screws on fusible link, wrap a large rag or cloth around the bottom of the fuse box so if the screws fall they do not disappear into the void below. This car is a real PITA if you drop something. I lost a battery post and still never found it after 1.5hrs of looking.

Apart from that I have a new fuse with a cover now and the car is running great!

Thanks again for the instructions.

Thank you so much for replying to me, so helpful. I Could not get the fuse from the auto parts stores..Therefore I will have to go to Lexus or Toyota for it. The absent-minded man had the battery in backwards and it blew the fuse. actually the 140 Amp and not the 80A. I have the 06 with 74k miles. Thank you again

Good luck....back in HS, I jump started my buddy's VW with my parents' Toyota and it was the same thing. Reversed the jumpers and burned a hole in my parents' radiator when I quickly undid the jumper and dropped it. Now I'm dating myself. Went to Caldor and tried to fix the hole with putty but it simply blew off. Had to get a radiator shop to weld it (today you just buy a new radiator and potentially it's composite anyway)! It happens, you'll be back in business soon. Thanks for sharing the experience.

Default Fuse

Thanks for that tidbit, I changed the fuse link but not the fuse to the Aftermarket Amp but I have no power for the navigation climate audio system clock and ac Temps reading do you think that Amp fuse will be the reason for that?

Just to make sure I understand correctly, do you mean that the displays, circled in red below, are all off?

For the battery discharge warning light, please first check the 140A "ALT" fuse and the 5A "ALT-S" fuse (see arrows in sketch below) in the same fuse box you worked in previously.
