Everyone thanks for filling on your experiences. Sounds like OEM and Akebono are head butting each other.

When I mentioned price is important, I did not imply wanting the cheapest brake pads out there. All of the brake pads are going to have a somewhat similar price, $50~$100. They are all going to stop the vehicle safely.
Or are you one of those people that think the more you pay, the better the product you get? I'm afraid to shock you, that life isn't understood this way.

I originally cheaped out and bought the wagner thermo quiets but my mechanic warned me they are noisy and he stopped using and recommending them so I just went to the dealer and bought OEM pads.
Its not worth taking a chance on which one is good or not , or noisy or not, just go with OEM.

Wagner ThermoQuiet are very good pads. The issue is either installation or improper bed-in. My guess is the latter since people don't seem to follow instructions. I highly doubt most mechanics are willing to spend time to break-in pads. They'll throw them on the car and off it goes with the customer.
As I said earlier, I'm running the thermoquiet right now and you couldn't tell whether with was OEM or not just by listening. You wouldn't be able to feel the difference in braking either. I suppose you can tell they're not OEM simply by looking at the wheels. They aren't covered in black dust.

OEM is Ceramic to my knowledge. Semi-metallic has some benefits but will wear your rotors down more quickly.

No, I don't propose that quality ("better" is in the eye of the buyer) is directly proportional to the price, although there is usually some correlation.

For me, brakes and tires I need to know how they perform. If I get 10% better performance for 25% more price, I'll get the performer for brakes and tires. Arguably the two most important components on a car.
