Default Look.... what I found under my battery tray

Another battery depleted .... Super Start Extreme - bought from O'Reilly's which lasted 37 1/2 months (3 yr warranty)... Super Start Extreme battery in my truck lasted for 40 months, also just outside free replacement warranty... so I'm not bragging on them nor am I trashing them, good for 3 years.

Now on subject, after removing battery I decided to pull my battery tray because I was concerned with the rust on the bolt head and washer of the bottom mounting bolt. I replaced bolt with a stainless steel bolt and washer from my bolt bin. The bottom of the tray had what appears to be acid residue/corrosion and the bushing shows evidence of rust as can be seen in photo... I cleaned up the tray, removed rust from bushing with a wire brush attachment using a drill. Painted with a primer and then painted with automotive paint to prevent further rusting. Note the hole just above the rusted bushing on battery tray, closest to the snub nose screwdriver. That is the drain hole... Remember that

Remember that drain hole I spoke of earlier... Well, here is the drain tube that sits below that hole in the tray. I pulled it up for viewing only, no need to remove. Either blow air thru it or rod with wire or similar to ensue it is free of any debris.. Tube was stopped up, not allowing any drainage, therefore any form of liquid (water/acid) leaked along side of the bottom tray bolt, eventually causing rust damage due to future owners, dealerships and my own maintenance neglect.
* Preventive Maintenance Checks & Services - check drain tube to ensure it is free of any blockage everytime battery is removed or replaced *

Cleaned up rust surface with a cordless drill and wire brush attachment. Sprayed and wiped with ' Wipeout ' grease and wax remover. Applied 2 coats of a corrosion resistant primer in aerosol can by ' Nason ' (421-24) and followed up with 2 coats of an aerosol automotive paint . Best if I used something like Por-15 but I used what I had around the house. So ...lesson learned here - when battery is removed for whatever reason, a 10 seconds can prevent a lot of headache

I was expecting maybe an old coin or something cool... Not a rusty bolt.
