Default Tires: What Do You Recommend?

I'll need to replace the tires on my recently purchased (6/14) 2002 LS430. I have factory 16" wheels so the tire size I'm looking at is 225/60-16. I'm leaning Michelin Primacy MXV4, but the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus has also caught my eye. What do you recommend? What are you currently running, are you happy/unhappy with them? I want to preserve the quiet ride, maintain comfort and also get something that is 60k plus tread mileage. Hope to hear from you!

I have the Michelin Primacy MXV4 on my 2001 LS430 and they are very nice.

All in all, you should of done a search, there are MANY threads about tires in this forum. I think a quick search would of given you a few options to look at. I found a few threads myself and that is how I decided on these tires by other posters here...

Not trying to give you a hard time, just trying to direct you to get more information...

Michelin mxv4 or mxm4 are fantastic. Continental extreme dws and also Hankook H727. Those are my favorites.

Had all three of these on my LS. Here are my impressions.

Michelin MXV4 are great. have them now and love them. They are a touring tire.
Continental ExtremeContact DWS are ultra high performance tires. Ride is too harsh for my liking but man did they turn nice.
Hankook H727 were wisper quiet and smooth. Very cheap to buy, but the car drove loose and wandered badly on straight roads and the soft sidewall made cornering a nightmare.

MXV4's are the favorite. I have them as well. They wear great. I also think they ride better at 32 psi vs 35 which I was running for a while.

I'm using Primacy MXV4's in 225/65R16 at 38 psi on my 05. I would look into Premier A/S's as well.

I also have 18's with Continental PureContact Tires that rider a bit former and harsher.

I have the Bridgestone Turanza on my IS350c and they are pretty good tires. No complaints. Having researched this exact topic of wanting quiet ride, comfort etc as I'm not a Auto X anymore many have recommended the Continentals DWS here over the Michelin's. Those will be my next purchase.

Good luck.

congrats on the purchase , many threads to read, but for the best tire for the money would be the michelin primacy mxv4 or the the new premier a/s,
if you add in ride quality , tread life, and savings quarter or half mile a gallon for effiiciency of the cost of ownership the michelin is a pretty simple decision. try to get the mxv4 at a nice discount due to the new a/s thats out,
i noticed your in cali the premier a/s is a real game changer in wet weather, so that should way in your decision if you find a price difference
safe driving

Another vote for the MXV4...these work so well on mine that I don't even bother looking for something else when the time for new tires rolls around.

I have almost 20k miles on my Michelin Defenders. Rotated 4 times. Still very quiet and super smooth with plenty of tread left. An excellent high mileage tire for the buck.

16's on an 05? You must aftermarket rims? 38 psi is pretty high for a car spec'd at 32. For a long time I was driving at 34 - 35 for that little less rolling resistance but the car feels better at 32. Both with absorption of road bumps and less lateral movement at high speeds. Only 2 - 3 psi can really make a difference.

Michelin MXV4 are my favorite all-season tire as well. With periodic rotation and proper inflation, I've driven 80K miles on a set. * While you're replacing tires, you should seriously consider upgrading to 17" wheels - which were available for the '02 LS. Significant ride and handling improvement over the stock 16" wheel.

MXV4 all the way................... I have the same year car and I upgraded to a 17" wheel when I bought the tires. I have about 25,000 miles on them and they look like new. great all around traction.

I have purchased a lot of tires for many cars but for my LS430, I really like the Hankook H727... Very smooth and quiet and you can not beat the price. I run them at 34-35 PSI and they track very true. If your car wanders then you have other issues.
