I guess I need to pull back the carpeting and panels to get access to the relay?

I think I see the relay. It's a brown one? Does it just pop off? Very tight area btw to do anything.

I found this picture of the LS430 Driver side J/B online... The relay of interest is the brown one near the bottom as you mentioned (see yellow pointer). The relay should pull straight out - you may have to wiggle it to loosen the connections.

I pulled back the carpet and loosened the fuse box without removing it, as I couldn't get some of the connectors to come off. I spent a out an hour trying to get the relay to come out. Is there a tab that needs to be pressed or something? I didn't wanna risk damaging it so I stopped.

Let's try this... The relay of interest is a 28371 type. There is an exact relay in the engine bay No. 1 R/B and is much more accessible. You can take a look at that and see how it's attached to the socket. Please refer to the red arrows on the diagrams below.

A friend of mine suggested that to reset the ECU, you have to disconnect the negative battery cable and leave it off for 15 minutes. I believe you have tried this trick already, but perhaps not long enough to clear the memory.

The one in the engine bay came off by pulling it out, but took some force and good leverage. Definitely don't have that leverage under the driver's dash. But at least now I know there's no tab to be pressed.

Hello, I just wanted to provide some updates. I took the car into the dealership for them to take a look. From their assessment, there is some corrosion on some connectors/wires at the right trunk where the navigation ECU is. I'm currently assessing the situation.

Were you or the dealership able to get the SMART key to work (at least temporarily) by bypassing and going around the corroded connectors?

I dropped the car off to them. I didn't see where the corrosion was, but I looked around the navi ecu and it's not immediately there.

But yes, they said they were able to get it to work. I believe they said the trunk sensor was shorted so it out the alarm system in a funk state.

The trunk sensor your dealership mentioned is probably the trunk lock assembly (L5) shown on the diagram below.

Here's the inspection procedure for the trunk lock assembly:

Hello
I have a similar situation however, only the front passenger door will not open. I do not have smart key activation in my 2004 LS430 so I use the key remote to lock and unlock the doors. It was working perfectly until I returned home with the family. I put the car in park, press the unlock button on the driver panel to unlock the door and all the doors unlocked except the front passenger door.

The door unlocks manually from the inside only. I tried several times using the remote and the unlock button on the drivers side. Out of curiosity just now I went to the car and used the remote to open the doors, all opened except the front passenger door. I sat in the car, turned the car on then reached over to press the unlock button on the front passenger side and the door did not unlock. The window button works just not the lock and unlock button.

Any thoughts?

It sounds like your door lock actuator motor is out of order. There's a $5 fix for that posted on this forum - just do a search on "LS 430 Door Lock Actuator Tutorial".

Hey rkw, are you a technician? Just wondering. Thanks for sharing a lot of useful information in various threads.

The door lock actuator is such an easy and money saving fix; amazing. On my UL with auto-close you would not believe what Lexus tries to charge to fix the $5 motor. Saved about $1000 vs going to the dealer. Totally ridiculous.
