Default External trunk switch

The rubber external trunk switch is melting. Does anyone know the cause?

There was another thread on this very topic, perhaps 2 or 3 years ago. I don't remember that the cause was ever identified.
Do you use any special wax or cleaner, etc. that may cause the rubber dome to deteriorate?

The exact cause was never identified, but for rubber to "melt" would have to be chemical and then maybe heat, but being that it's underneath with no direct light hitting it, hard to see heat melting it. Where do you live? Is it constantly hot 95+ and car outside? I still don't see it melting from just temp.

I live in Starkville Ms and it is hot but not hot enough to melt rubber. I first noticed that this switch was disfigured and then it became tacky to the touch. Although I haven't applied any chemicals to this switch I guess it could be something that the car wash establishment I use could be applying.
