Old lore are hard to die... heard on train a lady tell her friend she changes her oil every 3k because her dad did it and it's good for the car...she was easily 60 so we're talking who knows how long ago her dad was. I've come believe modern cars can probably go 8k easily no ill.

I change mine every 5,000 to 6,000 miles.

Mobil1 Synthetic oil with the OEM Toyota filter. I used to use the Mobil1 filter since I got them so cheap but I always forget to order one.

Every 6,000 full synthetic. Before full synthetic back in the 80's it was every 3.000mi, or my 442 burned about a quart every two weeks, so i was doing the drain and fill method.

Using a nice filter does make difference. After researching a little, I believe the fl 400s is made by Fram and is almost identical to the pure one line. I will probably go with the Fram Ultra XG3600 next. It seems to be a favorite of many.

On my Del Sol I used the OEM filter from Honda. I use OEM filters on my LS400 and LS430 simply because of a 92 Corolla I owned years ago. I didn't know about Toyota dual filtration filters back then but I owned that Corolla for 5 years and I never changed the oil...I'm serious...never changed the oil and my ex-girlfriends little brother still drives that car to this day with no oil leaks and no engine trouble...none at all. That is why I will stick with the Toyota OEM filter.

The current oem filter is not a bad filter. It's just a $3 filter in overall quality and size. Don't forget, the filters listed here are slightly larger then oem as well.

Normally spec'd oil filter for the LS430 engine seems very small to me so I make sure to use a high quality filter. I have lately switched to using NAPA Platinum oil filter (41348) on the LS. I buy 5-6 filters at a time when they go on deep sale (I'm told usually couple of times per year at about $7 each).

I thought I would share what Blackstone Labs said about the Mobil 1 5-30 in my LS when I changed it last time. The oil filter was a Wix from O'Reilly's. Looks like even 7500 miles is less than the oil and filter can handle.

No qualms at all for your Lexus's 4.3L V8 engine! Wear metals are looking just fine next to universal
averages here, so it's looking like all the moving parts in this motor are getting along well at 81,350 total
miles. Averages for this engine are based on a typical oil run of about 7,500 miles, so we're glad to see
some pretty average readings after a pretty average oil run. The oil itself was in great physical condition. No
contaminants were found, and the TBN at 4.6 is showing lots of active additive left. Go ahead and try 9,000
miles on the next fill. Nice!

That's awesome news. It seems pretty much accepted that good sythetic can go 10k no problem. I just don't think the oil filter is doing such a great job after about 7500 miles. I'm going to stick to the 6500 - 7500 plan.

Also, after reading more articles about the oem filter I think I was little harsh on the quality. I don't believe it's the best filter out there but it's a good filter and does a good job cleaning the oil.

Next week I am changing the oil in my 2006 LS430 and am using Pennzoil Ultra 5W30(old stock from a year ago)and a Fram Ultra filter. Planning on once a year changes of around 5-7K...... May keep the filter for two OCI's.

I'm also using the oversize FRAM XG3600 Ultra as well, along with Mobil1 5W-30. The XG 3600 is rated to 15k mile OCI, I'll go 10k on mine. BTW, the FRAM Ultra is one of the highest rated oil filters on "Bob is the Oil Guy" website.

Check out this thread in the LS/400 Forum: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...on-our-ls.html

It is about using oversize oil filters and compatible makes. I found it very interesting.

same info regurgitated over and over,
a good synthetic and a good oil filter if you have oem filter go around 5k intervals and if you have a synthetic filter go up to 10k after about 7500 you will have contaminants in the oil
its a simple formula
