Default Substitute for Bumper Cover Silver Trim - 03 LS430

Hello,

The silver trim on the front and rear bumper covers of my 03 LS430 has faded. It is now a dull grey and is starting to peel off in certain spots.

Checked the OEM part - 52751-50030. Same PN# for the front and rear. Only thing is it's like $100 dollars per piece - what a ripoff!

Anyone know a good substitute?

I heard someone here used a product from 3M, just wanted to know if anyone had the exact part number.

Thanks!

Rock auto sells front and rear for around $75. Check it out.

You can save even more money. Go to AutoZone or advance auto parts and get the Cowles S37750 for the half inch and make your own. That's what I am doing. Read it from a few other old posts on here.

I happen to be an absolute fanatic for perfectionism. As I am having both front and rear bumpers repainted by a certified Infiniti body shop I want to use as close to oem as possible. The Rock Auto trim seem to be precut and angled at the ends to the originals and after paying $750 for paint I'm going with them. I've always been happy dealing with Rock Auto.

I'm going to have to replace my front bumper cover moulding. How is this moulding pulled off?

From what my Infiniti body shop told me you can't. It will most likely crack while trying to remove it.

The moulding is coming off of my back bumper. To me it looks like it's held on with an adhesive. You could probably just pull it off or use a gasket scraper tool (maybe with some tape at the end) to gently pry it off.

It's held on by double sided adhesive tape. Most body shops will tell you that you need to replace it since the chrome paint may crack as you bend it unless you take extreme care. Some body shops may help you with that and others may not and would rather recommend you to replace it instead.

I am having both my front and rear bumpers being overhauled and reconditioned right now and after much thought decided to have the shop install the Cowles S37750 into that area and cut it to the right size. If it doesn't look good then I'll buy the precut ones from rockauto, but thus far it looks good from the packaging and matches the sides when I put the chrome trim it up against it.

Also I would recommend using a heat gun to try and remove it instead of a scraper to prevent marring if the bumper.

If the trim is still shiny it might be worth a try to remove it but if discolored it should be replaced as the bumper does look much better with the new shiny trim. Why have a nice repainted bumper with an older trim which starts fading?

The molding trim around the rear window tends to become dull, but it can be restored with a light application of rubbing compound and wax, which brings it back to shiny chrome stage. The bumper strip looks similar and may just need compounding and wax to fix the problem. Just a suggestion.

Tried this but it only holds up a short time before becoming dull again.

Bocatrip, mine is being replaced. They're already dull which sucks, but I am waiting for all of mine to be finished front and rear and having the hood repainted at the same time since the last owner must have had a scratch on the hood that was pretty deep and some body shop decided to sand it down and then paint over it again making the paint area look dull. I am pretty ecstatic to see the results once it is done hopefully sometime later this week.
