Default 04 06 ls430 atf fill plug location

I took my car to my friends shop and try to change the fluid . As I look at the bottom of the pan I couldn't find the hole to fill the transmission up with the proper fluid . I do see one plug that needs a allen key to open . Its the check plug because it saids check , then the drain plug close to this same plug . I have searched and came up with no accurate information on this filll plug . Somebody said there is a black cover hiding it. Anyone who has change their atf on their 6 speed auto please shine in . I have change plenty of atf and transmission to know that there is no such thing as lifetime fluid . Even water don't last a lifetime so I shouldn't believe Lexus theory .

There is no dipstick on the 04-06. I don't recommend you just have any shop do this procedure. You have to remove the cover on the side of the transmission and the transmission has to be at a certain temperature to accurately refill. I seriously recommended that you take it to a Toyota or Lexus dealer so they can do the procedure properly.

The following bellow is the procedure I copied from the service manual:

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
ADJUSTMENT
1. BEFORE TRANSMISSION FILL
_ This transmission requires Toyota Genuine ATF WS.
_ It is necessary to refill the transmission with the correct
amount of fluid.
_ The vehicle must remain level while adjusting fluid level.
2. TRANSMISSION PAN FILL
(a) Remove the two bolts and transmission case cover.
(b) Remove the refill plug and overflow plug.
(c) Fill the transmission through the refill hole until fluid begins
to trickle out of the overflow tube.
(d) Reinstall the overflow plug.
3. TRANSMISSION FILL
(a) Fill the transmission with the correct amount of fluid as
listed in the table below.
(b) Reinstall the refill plug to avoid fluid splash.
Performed Repair Fill Amount
Transmission pan and drain plug removal
1.3 liters (1.37 US qts, 1.14 Imp. qts)
Transmission valve body removal 3.9 liters (4.12 US qts, 3.43 Imp. qts)
Torque converter removal 5.3 liters (5.60 US qts, 4.66 Imp. qts)
Entire transmission assembly 5.3 liters (5.60 US qts, 4.66 Imp. qts)
HINT:
If you cannot add the listed amount of fluid, do the following:
(1) Install the refill plug.
(2) Allow the engine to idle with air conditioning OFF.
(3) Move the shift lever through entire gear range to circulate
fluid.
(4) Wait for 30 seconds with the engine idling.
(5) Stop the engine.
(6) Remove the refill plug and add fluid.
(7) Reinstall the refill plug.
4. FLUID CIRCULATION
(a) Allow the engine to idle with the air conditioning OFF.
(b) Move the shift lever through entire gear range to circulate
the fluid.
5. FLUID TEMPERATURE CHECK
NOTICE:
_ On vehicles equipped with air suspension, perform
step (c) if it necessary to jack up the vehicle while the
engine running.
_ The fluid temperature should be less than 30_C (86_F)
before beginning the fluid temperature check.
(a) With hand-held tester
(1) Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
(2) Select the tester menus: OBD/MOBD, ENGINE,
DATA LIST and A/T.
(3) Check A/T OIL TEMP.
(4) Allow the engine to idle until the fluid temperature
reaches 46_C (115_F).
(b) Without hand-held tester (Using D shift indicator)
(1) Connect terminals between CG (4) and TC (13) of
the DLC3 using SST (09843-18040).
(2) Move the shift lever back and forth between N and
D every 1.5 seconds for six seconds.
(3) The D shift indicator on the combination meter
comes on for two seconds. This indicates that the
fluid temperature check mode has been started.
(4) The D shift indicator will come on again when the
fluid temperature reaches 46_C (115_F) and will
blink when it exceeds 56_C (130_F).
(5) Allow the engine to idle unit the fluid temperature
reaches 46_C (115_F).
(c) For vehicles with air suspension (Using D shift indicator)
(1) Connect terminals between CG (4), OPA (11) and
TC (13) of the DLC3 using SST (09843-18040).
Terminal OPA is connected to prevent air suspension
height adjustment from occurring when the vehicle
is lifted off the ground with the engine running.
(2) Move the shift lever back and forth between N and
D at 1.5 seconds interval for six seconds.
(3) The D shift indicator on the combination meter
comes on for two seconds. This indicates that the
fluid temperature check mode has been started.
(4) The D shift indicator comes on again when the fluid
temperature reaches 46_C (115_F) and will blink
when it exceeds 56_C (130_F).
(5) Allow the engine to idle until the fluid temperature
reaches 46_C (115_F).
6. FLUID LEVEL CHECK
NOTICE:
The fluid temperature must be between 46_C (115_F) and
56_C (130_F) to accurately check the fluid level.
(a) Remove the overflow plug with the engine idling.
(b) Check that the fluid comes out of the overflow tube.
_ If fluid does not come out, proceed to step 7
_ If fluid comes out, wait until the over-flow slows to
a trickle and proceed to step 8.
7. TRANSMISSION REFILL
(a) Install the overflow plug.
(b) Stop the engine.
(c) Remove the refill plug.
(d) Add 0.4 liters (0.42 US qts, 0.35 Imp. qts) of fluid.
(e) Allow the engine to idle and wait for 10 seconds.
(f) Proceed to step 6.
8. COMPLETE
(a) Install the overflow plug with a new gasket.
(b) Stop the engine.
(c) Install the refill plug with a new gasket.
(d) Install the transmission case cover with the two bolts.
Torque:
20 Nm (205 kgfcm, 15 ftlbf) for overflow plug
39 Nm (400 kgfcm, 29 ftlbf) for refill plug

I need this info too.
I understand that there is a cover with two bolts on driver side of the transmission little way up. I haven't seen this personally though.
I am just planning to drain and fill exact quantity so the oil doesn't have to be at a certain temperature. (As long as drained and replaced oil is at same temperature.)

Ok, found it...see this link.

Which picture is the refill plug? Fig 1,2 or 3? Can you take some pictures when you're drain and replace. I need to do this myself too.

Lexus of South Atlanta does the procedure for $99 Why not just let them do it? Putting back what was drained is not really the proper way. Does not necessarily mean it is filled correctly.

What all does $99 cover? Parts and labor? Is it complete fluid exchange, flush, or drain & fill? If parts are covered then how many quarts and is is Toyota WS ATF?
Thanks for the tip!

Fig 3 shows fill plug.
Fig 1 shows how to get to the fill plug by removing the cover (2 bolts)
Fig 2 shows pan with drain and overfill plugs.

Drain and refill. Don't flush. Bad idea. The safest and most reliable method is to drain and refill at least every 90k. You never want to "shock" the system with totally new fluid especially if this is the first transmission service. I'm doing mine again soon then again every 30k. It was about $106 out the door. Very few dealers flush nowadays. Even Aisin, the manufacturer, does not recommend this. Consistent drain and refill is the key. This technique has been proven in the ls400 forums. Many cars with original transmissions going well over 300k miles.

Does it include taking the pan off, cleaning it, cleaning magnets, and cleaning (or replacing) the filter?
I am guessing not but still wanted to check.

No. There is no reason to drop the pan unless you need to for some repair. Dropping the pan is pointless unless it needs it. Not recommended. There is no filter. Just a screen. Drain and refill will keep everything clean and functioning properly.

There is a filter. Metal One.

3533050020 maintenance & lubrication, transmission, transmission parts, filter
3516860010 Transmission Transmission components Trans pan Gasket 3.0 li

costs around $50

plus you'll want to replace the gasket if you do a pain and filter drop.

drain and fill
drop pan and replace filter and gasket
"flush" via engaging torque converter and transmission cooler line method.

those are the three general methods to replace the transmission fluid.
a std drain and fill uses around 3.4 quarts. dropping the pan gets a little more out.

Takes 11.5 quarts for a complete fluid exchange.

Toyota WS fluid per quart costs at least $7 per quart. If you can find a discount from a local Toyota dealer.

There is no rubber seal on the tranny pan, silicone only.
