Great MPG

That is wonderful. I can tell ya this though I would not own my LS if I did all city driving. I am sure I would be looking at 14-15 mpg on premo, no thanks. I get 23-24 all tank long in the summer mostly hwy driving.

I hear you. Any V8 in the city falls on its face. Altitude, air temperature, and of course terrain all affect mileage. We have a decent amount of rolling hills and are 1000ft above sea level in the Atlanta area. It's not a lot but more than many think. In my 99 LS400 I could average as high was 32 MPG. Incredible. Rolling on some Michelin's, 93 octane, and laser cruise set to 70 MPH. Can't beat it. Like driving a lazy boy couch.

It's interesting. I notice a good 2-4 MPG difference when using cruise control. My tank average is usually 22 MPG with 70 / 30 mix. On long trips I always get 26 - 29 but I also don't drive very fast for fuel economy sake.

My mpg average for my entire trip, 3,200 miles in total from Toronto to South Florida and back was 28.5 mpg. Never exceeded the speed limit, cruise control was on most of the time. Not too shaby for a V8 with almost 100,000 miles !

Interesting observations!
I just moved from TN to Los Angeles, and drove my LS all the way here on I-40, from Knoxville.
I actually get better mileage without the cruise on.
One tank where I heavily used the cruise it was barely cresting 25, then the next I was near 28 with no cruise control use. I think altitude, wind, etc probably had something to do with it but I did notice a difference.
Another thing I REALLY noticed was how bad wind can affect MPG. Not that I didn't realize that, but wow way more than I thought. On the day where I left Amarillo, Texas, en route to Flagstaff, the wind was horrible. I couldn't even relax and enjoy the drive bc it was blowing me all over the place. Tank average? 22.1 MPG at a 75-85MPH cruise. I was worried briefly that there was something wrong, as I literally just had the spark plugs replaced the day before I left. But then the next tank, once I got into New Mexico and Arizona where the wind calmed down I went right back up to near 28. I know wind is more drag, but gee-whiz, 6MPG worth???
What a great car to drive cross country, though. She performed flawlessly, of course. Now she just sits in the secure garage mostly, which is fine bc I walk everywhere. I know a 10 year old Lexus isn't exactly a new S550, especially in the car capital of the world, LA, but I do like driving her around here when I get the chance. I've seen several fellow car people give me an appreciative nod, like they know just how special the LS430 is. Hehe..

Haven't gotten your numbers but I have to use weird Cali gas. I average around 25-27 on the highway if I keep it under 75. Around town it's the high teens to the low 20's. Coming out of Texas on the I-10 it was more like 28 and that was at 80! Let's hear it for Texas gas.
What are you people doing to get 12 to 15?? Holy c***p!!
Run yourself a test. Use the CC as much as possible. No jack rabbit starts (egg on the hood stuff but not old lady) On the highway use the CC and keep it at 65 or less. If it's still low it's time for some investigation (tires, gas or plugs for starters)

From my experience, you could have thrashed the ***** out of it and still gotten 24-25.

Just drove some 850 miles on a round trip. About 25 miles was in city with the remainder on interstate. Set the cruise on 80 mph for about 75% of the trip with the remainder at 65-75 mph because of traffic. Round trip average of 24.7 mpg.
Round trips are the only way to fairly evaluate the mileage as it takes away any elevation changes and perhaps wind changes.
