Default ebay timing belt kit

Looking at this
Seller: montero1969
http://www.ebay.com/itm/230861481937?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Looks legit. However I'm aware of the thread where ebay kit failed after 5 months. This is for my father's ls430. I tell him better spend extra $150 from dealer but he's cheap lol. Any thoughts?

RockAuto is a safer bet.

I got my kit from Amazon directly not third party for similar price. It has been 6 months and no issue. YMMV.

If I were going to pick a maintenance item to go cheap on, it wouldn't be the timing belt. It would be the last thing I would go cheap on.

Not sure if it's it cheap or not, the kit on Amazon is from a Toyota/Lexus dealer. Not sure about eBay though.

I hear ya. If it was me I'd go to dealer all the way. Looking at the ones from Amazon too. Price is similar. But I see two part numbers for water pump; TKT-001 and TKT-021. Any difference?

I don't know the difference between the 2 but I ordered the tkt-021 kit. Make sure the water pump comes in a white box with Aisin written all over the box and not a plan white box. The timing belt manufacture should be Mitsuboshi not Mitsubishi. An amazon misspelled . Hopes that helps.

I put this on the GS 3rd gen forum:

I'd recommend the Aisin TKT-021 kit instead of the TKT-001 (the one you linked to), The difference is the hydraulic tensioner and $20. The person doing the timing belt job is going to reuse your tensioner if you don't get a new one, so why not pay the extra $20 and get one that's brand new on your baby?

Also, you should consider replacing the thermostat and its gasket. I regret not doing it, but we'll see whether it fails before the next timing belt goes in.

(knock on wood)

You can purchase the Aisin kit from a large part supplier, like RockAuto, to avoid the unknown element of eBay. It's probably better priced as well.

Bob, the Aisin kit is OEM, just so you know. The exact same thing the dealer sells at often half the price. The kit is $181 at RockAuto. I have used them for various parts. Great website.

Why not just get factory for just a few dollars more? Sewell Lexus is $301.79 not including the thermostat and gasket. You are crazy not to use factory.

Aisin is factory. It is OEM. $181 vs around $500 is a no brainier. The eBay kit is poorly priced. This is the exact same kit for the LS400 and has been discussed to death over there. Don't waste your money on the dealer markup. Put it towards labor.

OEM kit:

AISIN kit includes the following components:

AISIN Water Pump
Koyo Idler Bearing
Koyo Tensioner Bearing
Mitsuboshi Timing Belt
Water Pump Gaskets & O-Rings

Aisin & Mitsuboshi IS the factory Lexus parts so paying more for the same thing is sort of dumb. Often youre paying for the Toyota packaging. I can tell you the vendor of every Lexus/Toyota parts and that kit seems to contain all of the OE parts. I tensioners pulley and idlers are in deed Koyo for OEM and Belts are Mitsuboshi, WP is Aisin, can seals should be NOK, and tensioner assy is NTN.
