2006 has 101235 on the clock. Decided I might as well replace the belt and of course change the water pump, seals, pulley's and tensioner. The belt looked like a 100K timing belt in my opinion. However, I am utterly surprised that the water pump had started to leak. It was not leaking externally yet but it sure was close. Here you can see the coolant after I removed the pump. I have never seen a Toyota pump like this at 100K.

Mine looked exactly like yours. My water pump started to leak slowly and I changed it at 103k miles. Mine is a 2004 though. I didnt notice coolant missing from the coolant tank because I never had to refill it during my weekly routine fluid checks. Good thing you changed your timing belt though.

That is coolant. This is where it was seeping from the gasket.

You did all the work yourself? Wow. I have worked on many different cars but for some reason, I am a little nervous about doing this procedure on my 2006 LS... How much were all of your parts? Thanks.

Yes I did it yesterday. It took me about 6 hours. Although part of that time was cleaning. Every part I removed including covers, bolts, housing, etc were cleaned in my parts washer. It all looked brand new! I'm kinda **** when it comes to my work.

If you have a good general idea and have done some wrench turning I am sure you can do it. Just take your time and take pictures if that helps.

The parts not including the coolant, which I already had was right at $400.00. That was all OEM parts.

this is good to remind us to keep on top of this , I want to wait till 100 000 miles as well, maybe ill do it at 90.

This seems to be a common issue with UZ series water pumps. My 03 4runner V8 had exhibited the same exact problem when I was doing the timing belt at 98k miles, my 01 had a fair amount of the dried pink scale in the same spot.

The timing belt change for the LS400/LS430's are really not too dificult, easiest change I've experienced compared to many other brands. I took a ton of picks and intend to write up a procedure, there are several already on CL and YouTube as well. My water pump had no signs of leakage though, Changed @ 95k

Mine water pump had a tiny leak when I did my timing belt at 115k miles.

If you think that's bad, I work at Toyota dealer and we do a crap load of water pumps for 2AZ 2.4 and 2GR 3.5 about 1 in 50 have seepage like that. 90% of them are under warranty so you know milage is quite low.

I plan on doing mine at 100k. Anything you guys recommend doing besides Waterpump, timing belt, tensioner pulley, idle pulleys and coolant flush? Maybe thermostat, drive belt, cam seals, etc? How about diff/trans fluid etc?

Presume I haven't done anything besides oil changes, filters, etc since 60k.

Cam seals can wait till the 200k mark. Everything else you mentioned plus the spark plugs.

I highly recommend changing the thermostat since you have to remove it anyway. Makes no sense for a $15.00 part that if it fails while stuck closed it will be a bad day.

Any idea what it may cost at a Lexus dealer to get the water pump, thermostat, timing belt, tensioner pulley, idle pulleys, coolant flush and spark plugs replaced?

I'm not sure that I want to tackle all of this myself. I have worked on old collector cars for years but only did basic maintenance stuff. I have some tools but I am assuming that I may need a few extra tools to do all of this. Thank guys...
