Default Brake pedal makes clicking noise in park

Hi- have a 2002 LS430, 116k miles. Today, for the first time ever, i noticed a clicking noise coming from the shifter console when i step on the brake pedal when the engine is on and the car is in park. This is the only time that it makes the noise. Did a google search and it seems that this noise it is somewhat common/normal in other cars and people are saying it is the shift lock solenoid operating that prevents a car from being shifted into gear without stepping on the brake pedal. This makes sense but it is strange that the noise appeared out of nowhere today and i never heard it before. Has anyone else experienced this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Jay.

Sounds like it is malfunctioning. Should not be clicking. That solenoid is about the only thing in there.

depends on how loud the clicking is. If your sitting in silence expecting the noise you can hear it. But unless its loud or something is wrong like you cant shift out of park or something like that, I wouldnt think too much into it
