#7 Ignition coil

What's the purpose of locating the #7 coil specifically? I'm about to do my plugs and they're all easily located, but which is #7 I don't know. Is the computer throwing a code for that one?

Found it.. #7 is the last plug/coil on the driver side toward the rear of the car. I also have a 02.

Thanks very much for the assistance. I was experiencing some rough idling / running on my 02 LS 430 and got it diagnosed. Codes P1346 and P1349 both VVT bank and codes P0300,0305,and 0307 ( all are supposedly misfire codes). The recommended fix was to first replace #7 cylinder ignition coil. This will hopefully clear up the other codes or at least make it easier to troubleshoot what ever codes remain. I did some research on the replacement costs of the ignition coil and couldn't believe how much the dealership was charging to replace the coil (this included over three times the cost of the same part at rockauto.com. and then the labor cost). I was able to find the coil for $43, but was stuck in locating the #7 cylinder ignition coil.

A beautiful day in Warrenton, VA yesterday, so I decided to take on this task of replacing the #7 cylinder Ignition coil. Access was very easy, task was completed in 15 minutes. I then decided to inspect remaining ignition coils and replace all eight sparks plugs. Total maintenance time 90 minutes. Thank again folks (and this forum) for your assistance.

Glad to hear of your great fortune with this super awesome car!! Don't you love working on the LS? It's been really easy, personally. Extra question... what plugs did you buy? Did you get the NGK Laser Iridiums? or maybe the Denso Iridium Power?

Went to the local AutoZone and got the Autolite XP Iridium/Spark Plug ($6.99 each). Without much thought I got the one that was recommended by the store clerk. The best part was the satisfaction of getting it fixed. I've always enjoyed driving this car. Especially after the past few weeks of it running like crap, and it being to cold to work on it.
