Default -20 and LS430

Monday Tuesday night its gonna get 20 below. I have a pile of driving I cannot get out of. Am I being silly to think about renting a car thinking my bushings and struts etc might incur some extra ordinary damage.

I mean it gets cold up here but 20 below is pretty rare though I did get in my LS 2 weeks ago and it was 18.8 below. I did hear noises out of by back end in the suspension I have not heard before that went away when it "warmed" up above zero or so.

Thanks

Fusion for 2 days will be about 50 bcuks

Don't worry. I have my LS for 3+ years, and each year there was (and is now) russian winter. All last week temps were floating around -20c.
Last year there was -33c minimum.
Car is completely drivable and no extra damage occurs/will occur.
Just make sure it's completely warmed up and tranny is warmed up as well before attempting driving.

The noises you hear may come from frozen door/trunk seals etc.

Anyway, i have no reservations about using LS in deep freeze times.

Good clean oil and filter are essential in these extreme cold temps - lubrication at start-up is the most critical, since that is when wear is most likely to occur. If you're nearing an oil change, suggest change it now, especially for cold starts outside (if car will not be in garage for starts).

Hi. Since I am in CA, I don't know how to warm up a transmission. How do you do that? Color me curious.

Idle car for x amount of minutes. I go 5ish. Then drive slow for the the first mile or so.

Basically do the limits but don't mash on the throttle, let that heat and movement warm the fluid, just as in your motor.

Wrong.... To warm up your tranny, warm up engine for about 5min first, then, keeping brakes on, put tranny to D. wain 45sec, put it to N, 45s, put to R, 45s, repeat. Done. Then you can begin driving.

Some friends are closing on a house on the FL gulf coast this week. Maybe it's time for me to fire up Zillow or realtor.com...
