My fav body style and timeless look is the 2004-2006 LS430, unfortunately they are much more expensive to find even with high miles then what i paid for my 01. Its ok, ill live with it.

Anyway, I'm very glad you feel better now (mine's a LS430 too). However, I wonder what made you trade-in your previous LS430 and upgrade to the LS460? I mean, what were you unhappy with then and hoping to improve on?
It had 150K on it, and I wanted to get features like nav, Bluetooth, and Levinson. Figured the 460 was the way to go, but boy was I wrong. The LS430 does the things that matter most in the luxury car a lot better than the 460.

So, I decided to ditch it and find a lower mileage 430 with those features. I already had the Vaistech MML for my old car, so I just installed it and now I have everything that I really wanted. Wish I would have just done that the begin with instead of going the 460 route, but you live and you learn. I actually considered getting a new 460. Very glad I didn't do that. Maybe I wouldn't have had the problem, or maybe I would have, but I would have lost by *** getting out of it if I didn't like it.

I don't see that much different between the two. 99% of the population wouldn't be able to notice any difference. 01-03 LS430s are probably the best bargain on the user luxury car market today.

Yes I know, the air struts will eventually fail, but I'm going to put money aside to replace all 4 if I have to.
Good luck with it. I intentionally stayed away from the air suspension cars. I've driven both and honestly can't tell much different. I do love the rest of the UL features though. Definitely the best of the 430s.

Its the little things, like 6 speed AT, newer AFS projector headlamps, led tails, revised ML audio and bluetooth, etc. But you hit the nail right on the head as far as bargain goes, 01-03 do come up way cheaper.

Hey that car I was going to buy has a reported accident on the carfax. I called the seller, and he explained that its a mistake. According to him, he originally bought a 2004 ls430 (new) and shortly thereafter got into an accident. He then traded in the 2004 for a new 2005 (the current car). Somehow the accident showed up on the new car's carfax.

He offered to take it to a Lexus dealership so that the service department can inspect it and confirm that the car has never been in an accident.

What should I do?

Id ditch it, that sounds very fishy. Accident reports go by VIN# so there would be no possibility that his "new" car would have that unless that car also has been in a accident as well, maybe before he even owned it who knows. Accident reports dont follow owners, they follow vin# and they are each unique.

I am with username32, that is total BS, carfax and accident report is base on the VIN.

Welcome back Bob, I am more then happy with my LS430, the LS460 definitely have much lower quality. Most people suffer the "newer must be better" syndrome, that is true most of the time, but there are always exception to every rule.

I just hope the next 5LS will be back to the quality of the LS430, because my LS430 sure won't last forever and clean low mileage LS430 is getting rarer over time.

Like others said, sounds odd, but Carfax does report incorrect information on occasion. A Lexus dealership will definitely be able to tell you if it had been wrecked or not. If they can't tell and you can't tell, I wouldn't worry about it unless you are worried about resale.

The seller is in the process of contesting the "error" with carfax. I will wait and see.

I have resigned myself to the fact that I may be driving LS400's and LS430's for the rest of my life. They are comfortable beds, like you say, of my automotive life. Can't find anything else I want to buy. I have had a 97ls400 since 02. It is well on it's way to 300k miles. For some reason, restoring the interior and exterior of this car is more exciting to me than getting a newer 460. Still runs great thanks to ecu-kings LScowboyLS / Yamae and looks fab (to me) next to my 04 LS430 garage queen (51k). It's a personal matter. I happen to like being stuck in this golden-era of the LS.

I am now also looking at a 2004 LS430 UL with 85k miles. They are asking $16.5k. Is that a fair price?

Way too much. Average prices below for 2004 with 85k miles from Edmunds site (these are value in Texas so other locals may have some variance)
Trade-In, Private Party, Dealer Retail,
$11,820 $13,307 $15,604

Use the internet to find average wholesale/Trade in value on any car you are interested in and then offer the dealer or seller about $1-2k more (max) depending on condition.
