Replaced timing belt on an 04 with 102k....pics of old one
Other than that, the belt looks to be in very good shape. Is what's on the pic there even abnormal? I'm no mechanic, so I'm wondering if any of you more knowledgeable guys can tell me what shape you think it's in. The belt seemed like it had some use on it, but I'd say I could have gone WAY longer. What do you guys think?
Here are more:
Lexus of Knoxville did TB, Water pump, replaced pulleys, tensioner, replaced drive belt and changed engine coolant for $945+ tax. At least I have piece of mind now knowing I'm no longer risking blowing my motor. Let me know what you guys think! How good (or bad) does my old belt look? 2004 with 102k.

Haha hope the mods don't mind this OT pic, but since you asked lol.
Yeah man I DEFINITELY wouldn't worry about it if you haven't even hit 90k. The absolute farthest I would have gone on it was 120k; my original plan was 105k but I had a coupon that expired yesterday so I went ahead and did it lol.
I'm eager to see what the more mechanically inclined think about how good (or bad) the old belt looks.

I really don't think the timing belts EVER break, maybe if your boosted or super charged or something.
I just bought an 03 with 68 000 miles, and they are already recommending that I change the belt, pulleys, water pump etc..
I also got a quote of about $1500-$1600 for the job at the dealer.

The belts are generally pretty durable and on the LS400's we've seen them go well to 150K+. The issue isn't the belts but the water pump and other associated pulleys-idlers. After all these miles the bearings in the water pump is the most likely candidate to seize and the resulting stuck or broken belt takes the engine down.
The other is age related. At 10 years regardless of miles this is a preventative measure to insure that the belt remains pliable. Even if the water pump and pulley have low miles, this is a conservative measure to perform this maintenance and be assured all is well.

When I replaced the timing belt and water pump on my 2004 LS with 115K miles, the belt looks like it can go another 50K plus miles however the water pump had a tiny leak. While shopping for my LS, I did came across an 02 LS with 130K miles advertised as broken timing belt. I guess, nobody wants to be that unlucky one.

I am seriously gonna drive this car until the wheels fall off, especially since I've invested a lot of $ into maintaining it properly. And, because it is maintained properly, I really am eager to find out just how long this car will end up lasting. 300k+? Everything just works, flawless, not one single thing wrong with it. The paint job (mercury metallic) is still stunning. Very impressive for a car that is about to be a decade old. Best car I've ever owned BY FAR!!!!!
