I was out in the car tonight and the noise was pretty bad. I held my fingers on the long vent that runs all the way across the front of the dash by the windshield. Should be the windshield defroster vent. I pushed down on the passenger side of the vent and the noise stopped. let go, and it started again. pushed on it and the noise stopped. Looks like i found the source, now I need a solution to fix it.

Any thoughts?

anyone experience noise from the steering wheel? when i turn the wheel it sounds like when you rubbed a fully inflated balloon with your hands.

OMGOMGOMG

I mean, OMG. I fixed it. 3 years in. I finally did. OMFG guys.

Ok, pictured below is a source of this particular and very annoying creak/squeak.

It's outside the cabin (oh yeah), passenger side of the windshield glass.
The long plastic piece, that covers the drain holes under the wipers.
It rubs on the metal of the frame. Thus this loud and 'plasticky' creak.
To fix it, i opened the hood, took out one plastic clip/piston, which holds the right side of this grill, and gently popped it up. Underneath, i saw, that this plastic piece (underside) makes contact with frame, and contact 'line' is insulated by thin strip of foam insulator. THAT is the source of this!
Foam gets hard, and makes this hellish sound.
I just sprayed it there with some silicon and greased the foam strip with Shin-Etsu (oh what an amazing thing it is!).
Then just popped it back in and put back the clip.

Phew, NO MORE NOISE!
OP, do this immediately and free yourself at last!

Hail Lexus!

Awesome glad you fixed it!

Could you please attach the picture onto you post? I can't open the link. I notice some creaks here and there too and would be very interested in seeing the exact location.

Thanks!

hi thanks for coming back to the thread and posting! hoping this is the fix for me as well. In that pic what exactly did you remove? The entire long grill that catches leaves and stuff from falling through? I'm a little confused. Thanks again Lynzoid!

Pic is showing the general area creak coming from. When you open the hood and look closely at that side of that long grille, you'll see one piston/clip. Unscrew and pull it out, then gently pop the side of long grill up. Then shine a flashlight underneath. You'll see a strip of foam glued to the underside of the grille here. This foam rubs on the frame underneath it. Lube there and creak is gone. Push it back in place and stick in the clip. So, no removals, side of grill just lifts up a bit. And it's enough to access the friction point.

I took a look at what you said this morning. I do see that it does rub there. My car just turned 27,000 miles and that grill below the windshield in the area your talking about has already rubbed through the paint. I put some grease on the part that is rubbed just to see if it stops the squeak. If it does, I will take further steps.

Either way, I think lexus should have done a better job with insulating it because for a part to rub through the paint is just weird...

Can anyone please post up more pics showing step by step guide with an arrow or something?. I cant make out much from the one pic, I dont see where the foam is. I have a creak noise and I want to see if this is it. Mine sounds more like plastic vibrating but it sounds like its inside the car not outside but im willing to try and see if it's this.
