Default Coin Box Questions

Assistance, please.
The coin box latch on my 2002 LS430 is broken and does not appear to be repairable. Currently the box is wedged into the dashboard by a hair clip for appearance, but is practically unusable. The price of a new one is ridiculous.

My questions:
1) Is there a simple latch release repair available (the plastic catch on the top left side interior is broken)?

2) Which other year models of Lexus or Toyota products utilize this same coin box?

3) Does anyone know of a source for a used box? I can change the color plate, so a coin box of any color interior will be suitable.

Thanks,
hrp

Try August Pohl In Benton Harbor Mi salvage yard. I got a used power steering pump out of a recently wrecked 05. They where real good to deal with though they might want to save it for the whole dash. Mine busted on my last LS I beleive their is no easy fix. Thye where like 200 bucks when I cecked.

Default Thanks; Has anyone more info on this part.

Thank you who have already posted replies. I'm going to be watching salvage yards locally. I suspect all of the LS430's have the same coin box. I wonder if any other Lexus/Toyota models used the same part. Does any one know or know the part # for the LHD if it is no different from the RHD one on E-bay as mentioned above?

Prolly gunna cost ya the 140 bucks or so anyway as i wonder if they will separate it from the dash. However, a penny saved is a penny earned, doesn't hurt to ask.

I had the plastic catch break on my 04 UL. I repaired it myself. Took the faceplate off, which has the latch. I actually epoxied a "pin" on the side of the broken piece, made from a paper clip. It's a bit of work to get it positioned correctly so it will work, but I'm quite happy with the results. I don't really use the coin tray so it isn't subjected to a lot of usage which reduces any possible non-reliability of the fix.

Default Great Advice

Jayclapp,
Thanks. You accurately described my coin box problem. Will give it a shot over the next week and report back. Mine doesn't get much use either and currently is wedged into its proper spot with a piece of a child's hairclip; doesn't work, but looks right.
Thanks!!

I accidentally broke the latch on my coin tray. The left side of the pin support for the latch was broken and this allowed the latch arm to swing to the right and not make proper connection to latch and hold the tray in the closed position. I finally managed to fabricate a pin from a paper clip that will serve to prevent the left side of the button from rotating inward which caused the arm to rotate and not latch. I used J&B Weld to secure the new pin in place and it actually allows the tray to close and latch. It's not quite as smooth as the original, but it does work.

I have attempted to attach photos, but not sure they will appear. I have them in the Manage Attachment, Upload File, but but don't know what to do next to assure they are actually attached.
