I have a 2004 LS and in the past year I have had intermittent problems with the air conditioning. For the most past it works fine but every once in a while it only blows regular air thru the vents with the air on high.

Turning the car or the air conditioning on and off does not seem to affect this condition but at some point the air starts working fine again.

They added some freon last year with the dye but nothing looks like it is leaking and when it is running it is always cold.

Every time it happens and I head over to the dealership it always begins to work again before I get there.

It seems like the problem is electrical because it just comes back suddenly .

I was just wondering if anyone else had this experience and if so what the problem was.

compressor needs replacing... or they put less/more than needed or R134...
if you have 2 a/c systems (one in the back) it's 910grams
if you got 1 - 650

Sometimes my A/C doesn't start blowing cold air after I start it even though the screen shows that it is on. I turn A/C off and then on again and then it starts acting normal. I am not sure if it is related but I keep wondering why.

Pretty common issue with our cars as they get up there in years it seems. I had the same symptoms as you and it turned out to be the pressure switch. More details are in this thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...g-hot-air.html

Looks like I need to run A/C Dignostics.
You press the RECIRCULATION button and AUTO button, THEN turn the ignition to ON.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
SELF-DIAGNOSTICS
An Electronic Control Unit (ECU) within A/C-heater control
panel monitors system circuits and stores trouble codes in memory if
problems are detected. All codes, except Codes 22 and 23, are stored
in memory. Malfunction is current if Code 22 or 23 is displayed. To
retrieve stored codes, see RETRIEVING CODES. Codes are displayed at
temperature display. See Fig. 2.
RETRIEVING CODES
1) Simultaneously press and hold AUTO and recirculated air
switches. See Fig. 2. Turn ignition on. All indicators will flash 4
times, at one-second intervals. Tone will sound when indicators flash.
2) A/C system will enter self-diagnostic mode. To end
indicator check, press and release OFF switch. Read codes at
temperature display.
3) If trouble code is displayed, proceed to appropriate
trouble shooting procedure. See DIAGNOSTIC CODE IDENTIFICATION table.
Codes are displayed in ascending order. To slow rate at which codes
are displayed, press fresh air button to change display to step
operation. Each time fresh air button is pressed, display changes by
one step.
4) If tone sounds as code is displayed, problem currently
exists. If tone does not sound as code is displayed, problem occurred
in past and does not presently exist.

00 ................................................ Normal
11 (1) ............. In-Vehicle Temperature Sensor Circuit
12 (2) ................ Ambient Temperature Sensor Circuit
13 ................. Evaporator Temperature Sensor Circuit
14 .................... Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit
21 (3) .............................. Solar Sensor Circuit
22 (4) .................... Compressor Lock Sensor Circuit
23 (4) ........................... Pressure Switch Circuit
31 .................. Air Mix Door Position Sensor Circuit
32 ................ Air Inlet Door Position Sensor Circuit
33 ............... Air Outlet Door Position Sensor Circuit
41 ....................... Air Mix Door Servomotor Circuit
42 ..................... Air Inlet Door Servomotor Circuit
43 .................... Air Outlet Door Servomotor Circuit
(1) - If in-vehicle temperature is -4  F (-20  C) or less,
Code 11 may set even though system is normal.
(2) - If outside air temperature is -58  F (-50  C) or less,
Code 12 may occur set though system is normal.
(3) - If testing is done in a dark area, Code 21 may set
even though system is normal. Shine a light at solar
sensor and recheck codes.
(4) - Malfunction is current. Code is not stored in memory.

ACTUATOR CHECK
1) Perform step 1) of RETRIEVING CODES. When system enters
self-diagnostic mode, press recirculated air button. Each mode door,
motor, and relay will operate at one-second intervals. Press fresh air
button to display codes one at a time, and perform step-by-step
actuator check.
2) Check airflow and temperature by hand. Tone will sound
each time display code changes. Each display code is associated with a
system operating condition. See Fig. 3 or 4. Press OFF button to
cancel actuator check mode.

Got codes 21 and 24.
21 is understandable as I tested in dark/low light.
What is 24??? It is not even on the list above.

I had same problem, took 2 years to diagnose, it was the compressor that was intermittently locking up. Had to replace it.

21+24 = normal codes. 24 is rear solar sensor.

I drove tonight and A/C was blowing cold air.
I will test again in the daytime.
It looks like I don;t have any A/C issues (yet).

Ok, Did the Diag test in the daytime today. Got code 00 means all systems alright.

I put climate control in auto mode and AC indicator on screen showed on but no cold air yet, Manually turned A/C off and on from touchscreen but still same thing. Did this one more time and A/C started blowing cold air.
Showed same symptoms when driving later in the day.
What does this mean?
Replace switch or the compressor is bad?
There is a workaround so I am not in a hurry but I don;t want to make anything worse if any action is needed at this time.

Having an issue with my 2GS.. A good gentlemen directed me to this thread. I am going to go run a self diagnostic test real quick. And see what's going on with my air.. I changed out the mode servo and when I put the air to blow from the vents above the navi system, it doesn't respond. Nor from the feet area. That's why I replaced the mode servo. Thinking it was that. Let's see if this self diagnostic can help me figure any additional hints out to my little problem.
