Really? Logically I thought that would work, but I can push the door handle multiple times and the lights will still be on. Weird

My 04 UL works like yours. I don't care about the lights either. I like the fact that if you have a door or trunk open the lights will stay on. Only after they are all closed will the timer start and turn off the lights. Perfect, as far as I'm concerned. I want to be pampered and not even have to think about the lights!

I meant the button on the key. I actually didn't realize there was a key hole until three months after I bought the car.

My 05 is just like yours. I press the handle buttons multiple times and the lights stay on.

Good point, I do that sometimes too mainly when I go back home. Some extreme lighting for sure. I was just a bit puzzled by why my car didn't turn off the lights with the handle, but I see other owners like yourself and Kira experience the same.

Door handle button would be easier.

Don't see why fob is needed since car is push start anyways (keys just sit in pockets the whole time)

I stepped up to the highest pkg of my Touareg just to get Smartaccess. Prolly in my 140 k of ownership used the key to open a bottle more than I have the fob.

I use key fob 100% However car gets broken into regularly by someone who must have some sort of device that unlocks it - how can I stop this happening?

98% outside door button, 2% inside door switch. I use the outside door button the most because it is such an innovative idea... But as far as eronomics & physics, using the inside door switch seems to be a more efficient flow of motion. You are reaching for the door latch to get out anyway, just a flip of switch inches away. It's basically 1 motion, shut the door and walk away. Now, getting out shutting the door, THEN pressing the button is really an extra motion. But its so cool!

Using the inside door switch works if you are alone with no passengers. If you have passengers, then the outside door button is perfect. Just wait for all the passengers to get out and close the doors and then hit the outside door button to lock the car. I also kind of like to hear the beep to know for sure the car is locked.
