Have fuel but I run out of gas
I addressed this a few years ago, thought I had it fixed but it has now reappeared. I have a 04 LS 430. Sometimes with a 1/4 tank showing on the gauge, I would run out of gas. This happened twice and both times I was on the highway running at high speeds for a few hours. When in town, the tank could be below 1/4 reading and had no problems. The dealer determined it was the sending units and replaced both. Yesterday, while on the highway with over 1/4 tank on the gauge, the car stop. I put in gas and it started right up and made it to a gas station with no problems. With the gas I put in to start it along with filling it up, it only took 16 gallons. Obviously, it was not out of gas. Now what should they be checking, the fuel pump? The car had all of its recalls done which I believe included a transmission replacement as well as a fuel pump replacement. What about the filler pipe TSB I have been reading about on the website. Certainly, I was ripped by paying for the replacement of the sending units so I want to have an educated guess when I next take it in. I usually keep 1/2 or more it so I rarely am in a situation to see the issue. I realize it is not good to run the car low but I now think I have always had enough fuel. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

I think it's a 22 gallon tank (please verify). Most cars have a 18 gallon tank. If the tank is really empty, it should take 22 gallons of gas, or something is not right with your gas tank capacity.
