Default Battery warning light, dash lights, navi screen goes out etc

All

About 2 weeks ago while waiting to park my car at a restaurant, the battery warning light came on and engine made a whining noise and there was slight smell. I parked my 2006 LS430 and raised the hood to check things out. Didn't see anything weird under the hood. I turned the car off and back on headed home praying to make it without being stranded. A few minutes later the battery light went out, no more whining noise etc. Next morning went out of town with my job. Came back a week later, no battery warning light etc.. Last night battery light came on again while driving home from watching the game but no whining noise or smell. Got home, checked the battery cables and the positive was pretty loose so I tightened it. After starting the car the battery light is still on. Battery is new 10/12 right before purchasing the vehicle in November 2012. Came home today and drove the car down the block to see if anything had changed. Pulling into the driveway and the VSC and Brake light come on, then Navi goes out, while parking in the garage, dash lights going off then on then off again. 10 minute later, car starts without a problem but battery light is still on.

Any thoughts Lexus family?

Hmm, alternator? Sounds like one, take to the shop and let them check your alternator. You could be running on battery power only, meaning your battery is not being charged.

yep - take it to a shop that can read the codes its throwing - they should point to something more specific than the warning lights can tell you. It could be faulty new battery or something like alternator or voltage regulator that is bad or intermittently bad - and that may have caused the demise of the prior battery. I would go over the whole electric system also checking all grounds, all cables, and connectors.

Thanks for the insight! I'm having it towed to LexTech here in Atlanta. I figure worst case scenerio is replacing the alternator ($535.00) or it could be a drive belt. I will follow up here after its resolved.

Thanks again
