Question LS430 2004 DTC's P0133 P0031 P2196

Hi everybody!

I'm having some trouble fixing my LS430 so it won't light the CEL and turn off VSC. I changed all 4 O2 sensors 3 months ago. I also cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body.

The engine runs well but between 1900 and 2100 RPM it seems to struggle to accelerate. After it passes the 2500 RPMs it feels like a race car!

Last Sunday I cleared all codes. The CEL turned on approximately 45 minutes later (I did one stop). Today I checked the error codes and they were P0133, P0031, P2196.

The codes that were cleared on Sunday were: P0300, P0303, P0305, P0307, P0031.

I have two options: Change the MAF sensor or change again the O2 sensor (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Hope these links give more info.

It's a o2 related issue on all these, either the sensor or the wiring going too it apparently.

If you have just changed the sensors and not the MAF then it could be this, but the codes relate to the sensors

The P0300 code you cleared relates to a random cylinder misfire issue.
P0303 code states it was cylinder 3 misfiring
P0305 is cylinder 5 misfiring
P0307 is cylinder 7 misfiring

Causes
Possible causes of OBD code P0305
A code P0305 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: Faulty spark plug or wire Faulty coil (pack) Faulty oxygen sensor(s) Faulty fuel injector Burned exhaust valve Faulty catalytic converter(s) Running out of fuel Poor compression Defective computer

this is the same for the other 2 codes above.

Possible causes of OBD code P0031
A P0031 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following: A short or open in the heater circuit in the sensor A failed O2 sensor heater Wiring/connectors broken/frayed leading to sensor and/or relay Failed PCM/ECM

Today I checked again the errors and the P2196 was not present but all odd cylinders misfire (1,3,5,7) and I still have the P0031 error. I changed that O2 sensor (before the first post) and will change it again hoping the errors will disappear because the next step seems to be replacing the engine computer.

I seriously doubt it's the computer. It sounds to me you have some serious misfire or short circuit going on. I would have a professional diagnose it before you just start replacing parts. The oxygen sensor is not causing your misfire. ECU's on LS430 are extremely rare to go bad. You have an ignition problem from what it sounds like. Have it professionally diagnosed. There are procedures to narrow the problem down. It will cost you less money then throwing parts at it.
