Default HVAC blower motor gusty then quit

My 2001 ls430 ultra front ac blower has become sort of gusty like an uneven wind even if set to one constant speed (problem occurs with auto or manual use). It blows normal then intermitantly blows a little stronger then a litle weaker; then normal again for a long time. Then on a 5 hour trip today it quit altogether until I turned the car off and immediatly restarted it and it came back on fine and has been ok since. Has anyone ever experienced this? Is the blower motor an easy swap if it is the motor? Please share if you have insight. Thanks.

Mine is noisy most of the time, but the speed seems consistent. When I turn right, the noise goes away temporarily. Did you end up replacing the entire assembly?

Stemirra,

I have experienced this in my '98 LS400 (190kmi). I am seeking advice on the forum. So far, I have been able to get some info from this thread:
