Does anyone know of a source for a dynamic laser cruise control module other than from Lexus. Mine's broken, 2003 LS 430, and they want $2100 for a new one.

My '04 430 has been commuting me from Miami to Orlando for 4 years and I always use the laser cruise and wanted to make a comment.

99% of the time it works, but variations in what I guess is vehicle color, reflection and bumper height do seem to cause some vehicles to appear invisible to the system.

My mom has an '06 with pre-collision and I have experienced the same behavior on her car, but its more like 99.5% accurate, I attribute the improvement to the sensor being behind the Lexus logo and being much better protected and also cleaner as my under bumper sensor is always dirty.

It is my belief and experience that the cruise is not even detecting an object but really detecting signal deflection from reflectors on the car ahead. I've found that the few times it doesn't work, the vehicle ahead was very clean of reflective surfaces (red, yellow reflectors) while vehicles with multiple reflectors the system picks up better. Just be careful, the system only slows the car down to 27 MPH, not to a stop.

Hi, Lotus.
One difference is that with PCS, the '06 has Dynamic RADAR Cruise Control. Without PCS, the LS430s have Dynamic LASER Cruise Control. Quite different technologies to detect another vehicle.

The Prius was the first vehicle with Intelligent Park Assist in 2004 (Japan only) and eventually in Europe in 2006. In North America, IPA was rebadged as APGS for the Lexus brand and debut on the 2006 LS460. The latest systems are way better than the '04 version (esp. with the Pre-Support Function. Prior to that, and I'm sure you've seen YouTube videos, you had to know where to position the car. Pre-Support guides you when you activate it).
