Default Timing Belt Parts List

Went through and complied an "overkill list" of parts to replace when I do the timimg belt change.

The two questions I have are, have I missed anything and is there any part(s) that are over the top and not necessary?
  • Timing Belt
  • TB Tensioner & Pulley
  • TB Idler & Pulley - Right & Left
  • Serpintine Belt
  • Water Pump & 2 O rings
  • Thermostat & Gasket
  • Crank Seal
  • Cam Seals

My Lexus dealer just did a 10 year (77,000 mile) timing belt and serpentine belt replacement on my 2002 LS430. They did a coolant flush too of course.
They didn't try to sell me any of that other stuff.
Labor cost = $340.

When it comes to the 90k related issues, the failure revolve around the tensioner, idler and water pump.

Everything else on that list is hardly an upsale, as their costs are minimal. The labor to dig into the engine is where the $$$ comes from. Once everything is all apart, there is no reason not to replace everything else in there.

Kind of like when you replace a clutch, you might aswell replace the rear main seal at the same time. A tiny bit of money while it's all apart, or spend the same money on parts later when it fails and do the disassembly work all over again.

Agreed that the $ is in the labor. The only parts I am hesitating on is the cam and crank seals, it is a lexus and you have to draw a line somewhere. I been reading the forums for years and very rarely do you read about failure with these seals.

i just left my local mechanic after an oil and filter change. I asked about the cost to replace all of the items in the OP's list and it came to $780.00, labor included. Not too bad IMO.

hanks for this thread, I am looking at purchasing a 2005 RX330 with 85K miles, the service records indicate:
CHECK PULLEY & RPLC PULLEY

I am assuming this is one othe Pulley's you are refering to -would it be normal to replace one at 85K miles? I do not have details on the actual repair, but just wondering if this is a "deal breaker" type of repair at 85K - service done at 84K - went to wholesale at 85K. thanks
