Default 2001 LS430 UL Rear passenger seat not reclining

Hello,

I am having a problem with one of the rear seats in my 2001 LS430 UL. The passenger side rear seat does not recline. When I press the button that controls the reclining feature nothing happens. I can hear a clicking sound coming from behind the seat like the relay is working so Im assuming the switch itself works. Maybe the motor for the sliding track is stuck or bad? Anyone know how to check this?

Thanks

Bump anyone know how to remove the power rack or have a manual on how to do it? If so that would be great so I dont have to pay the dealer $5~600 to do it on top of the $500 for the part. Ive seen the how to on removing the seat cushions and it doesnt look to hard to remove the rack but I dont want to go in there blind. I would like some idea as to what to expect.

Thanks

Ok got a chance to work on this issue. I was able to get the power rack out and get to the drive motor. It looks like the motor is dead. It turns when not installed but does not have enough torque to spin the worm gear that drives the rack. Now does anyone know if I can just buy the motor and where? Or is this something I have to go to the dealer for?

Thanks

*edit*
Seems the dealer sells just the motor for the rack itself. Get ready for this but it cost $575 So unless I can find another source for this part or someone that can rebuild the existing motor Im up **** creek.

If I used the correct part number, the rear seat cushion motor is available from parts.com -- see the attached. Verify the part number with your local Lexus dealer -- the 2001 LS430 sold in Hawaii is somewhat different than those sold on the U.S. mainland.

Thanks,

After uninstalling it I cant seem to figure out why they (dealer) quoted me 4.6hr for the job. It took me all of 15 minutes to get the motor out and another 15 minutes to put it back together. And Im no mechanic. But anyway I did find an alternate part for the motor. It came out of a 1996-2001 Toyota 4Runner. I found it on Ebay and it costed $45 shipped. Now the motor when I first looked at it didnt look exactly like the one from my LS but upon further inspection it was just an extra part bolted to it. So I took a chance and ordered. I just got it in today and looking at it my hunch was right and it is the same motor. Now just need to install it and Im back in business.

Hey,

I know this is old but if you're still on here can you tell me what kind of motor you searched for that came off the 4 runner?

You should be able to just tug on it and have it pop out. Im not 100% sure as your car is an 05 and there are cooling ducts in the rear seats. The 01-03 does not have these.

This is an old thread but I'm having the exact same problem as the OP. You can hear the switch trying to work but my rear seat on my UL does not recline. Part # is 8582030310 from what I can gather... but this exact part doesn't seem to be available on ebay. Can anyone tell me if a similar part 85820-xxxxx work for my application?

sorry to revive an old thread but after getting sidetracked on getting my base model ls430 running, i figured i would go back to my UL and get the lingering issues fixed. still trying to figure out which motor is that's needed for my rear passenger seats to recline... can anyone help me with this? I assume almost any reclining seat motor from a toyota/lexus from the late 90s to early 2000s COULD work... but that's just my guess. hopefully someone can help confirm my assumption
