What is the little roof mounted 2" screw on antenna for?
my 01 ls430 has a 2" apx. black flexible antenna. I unscrew it when going to the car wash because the owners manual said to do so.
What is it to? Radio, nav or the on-star like analog communicator that was removed by the Lexus dealer under a no charge service campaign.
Do you remove yours when going to the car wash (is it worth the hassle to remove it or is it durable enough to survive)?
Please advise.

That was antenna for the LexusLink which most cars did not have buy I think lexus figured it was easier to just have across the board than install when needed. Its not satellite or cellular.

Lead Lap
Through the 2003 model year, the roof antenna was used for the dealer installed phone system (<2003 = Sprint; 2003 = Cingular/AT&T) unless the car had factory installed LexusLink.which used it in which case the dealer phone system installer would afix an imprinted phone antenna to inside of the rear window a la the 1995-2000 LS400 factory installed imprinted phone antenna.
