Default pass time

anyone else enjoy this show. I like to try and guess the time, and I have no idea what a stock LS430 would do the 1/4 mile in .... anyone know ?

12 seconds ??

umm, try more like 14 seconds,, i think you should feel happy if you ever broke into the 13's in an LS430. i love mines but realistically its not very fast. my guess is like 13.9 on a good day with perfect conditions and fresh tires/nothing in the trunk or back seat.

I believe Lexus estimates it as 14.5 at 95ish mph. I think there's a clip on youtube of a 430 hitting the quarter in the lower 15s. Not the fastest out there by any means lol. I think it has a lot to do with gearing in 5th and 6th for economy rather than performance.

Manual shift is what'll probably get you into the 14's. I was going to say 15-16 sec 1/4 mile myself, having just sold my 10 sec car for this one, I feel it's drastically slower. But I didn't get it for the 1/4 mile time, lol...

This is a repost but here is a vid of a 430 on a drag strip against an RSX type-R. The 430 does it in 15.1 at 91, I'll let you see who wins...

Based on the title of the video, that LS has been modified / tuned.

You could hear the RSX hopping all over the place, that thing had zero traction and a terrible driver, lol...

12s?

Id have to guess its in the high 14s to low 15s. And the fastest way to get a good 1/4 mile out of our cars is NOT by using manual shifting, but rather by just leaving it in drive as the computer knows exactly when to shift and does so quicker than the "manual" selection does.

Best case scenario maybe, but I think my car shifts to early in most cases.

Ok, but it shifts too early for what? How often are you driving the car completely floored, hammer all the way down and never lifting?

Well, this thread is about getting the most speed from the car in a drag race - not really what the car is made for.

So, to get the most speed you want the most power from the engine. The engine gives more power at higher RPMs but better mileage at lower RPMs. So the auto transmission is designed to shift early to keep the car in higher gears (lower RPMs) and save gas. But if you want the most speed, you need to manual shift later to keep the RPMs higher.

Of course if you've got it floored, the auto transmission will stay in lower gears to get you moving but you will get better control shifting manually.

for better acceleration use the power button on the dash and turn off the VSC. In power mode the tranny shifts at a slightly higher RPM level. In each gear as it shifts you want the tach to come back to 3400 rpms when the maximum torque is available.

you'd be surprised

but another thing i don't care for is the inability to completely turn off our vsc or traction control. it only turns it semi off/on by disabling it via the button. someone tole me to hold the button down to completely disable but it didn't work on my car.
