Default How to install exhaust tips

I've looked through the threads on exhaust tips and see some pics I really like. When adding tips to my 02 LS 430 , Does the exhaust pipe need to be cut off? Where are some sources of the tips. Seems like a simple job but I'm a little confused. Any help, suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Harry

The factory LS430 exhaust tips are slip on. If you want to install aftermarket tips there are a few different options. You can get another slip on/bolt on tip, or you can get a tip which needs to be welded on. Weather or not the pea shooter exhaust tip coming off the muffler needs to be cut off depends on what you're putting on.

So find out what you want on there and that will determine the proper installation method.

The '04 to '06 is a straight pipe which tips are slipped over w/ hardware for a pressure fit. The '01 to '03 is different as the pipes curve downward as they exit the muffler. There have been a few threads where folks installed slip-on tips on the curved pipes. I actually did this, but it wasn't satisfactory to me as the things would slip over time and looked crooked/different left vs right. Save yourself some aggravation and go to a muffler shop, have the curved part of the pipes cut off, and then have the tips of your choice welded on. Such a relief not to have to think about the fit after that.

Because the rear bumper tailpipe cutouts are much smaller on the earlier models, there will probably be a bit of downward angle of the tips to clear the bumper. More so if you choose larger vertical diameter tips.

No problem with the fitment on my '01 ls

The tips are directly bolt on the exhausts.

Denis.
I think these silk blaze are exactly what I'm looking at. Did they require any alteration to the bumper or did they discolor/damage/soften/change in anyway the bumper?

Huh.. I thought it is welded in there. I have to check it out and see how easy to remove and reinstall the tips. It would be nice to polish it.
