Default Bluetooth for 01 ls430

Has anyone installed a Bluetooth kit in there 430? What one works the best? Did you install it yourself?

The most detailed thread I've ever seen on Bluetoothing an early LS430 is at http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...howtopic=34849

Jainla said in a later thread that he would use a plug and play adapter harness like those from http://www.quickconnectproducts.com/...ind.php?id=176 if he was doing it again. There is plenty of room under the dash to hide a phone kit speaker if you don't want to muck with tapping into a door speaker like Jainla did.

The selection of Bluetooth kits seems to be declining as Bluetooth becomes standard in even the most inexpensive cars. My favorite Bluetooth kit is the Parrot MKi9100. It is compatible with an unusually wide range of phones including iPhone. Software updates can be downloaded from the Parrot website and installed on the MKi from USB flash memory. I'm beginning to gather the parts I will need to install an MKi9100 in my 2000 LS400 to replace a Nokia phone kit I installed when I bought the car in 2003.

My plan is to mount the Mki9100's LCD on the left side of the instrument cluster on the little shelf just below and to the left of the temperature gauge and to mount the controller on a small Pro.Fit bracket on the left side of the center stack so I can reach it without removing my right hand from the steering wheel. The Parrot's "brain" will go where the Nokia kit's junction box is now - on the left side of the transmission tunnel behind the carpet.

I'll probably hook the Parrot's music streaming feature to an FM transmitter and see if I can tolerate the sound quality. There may be better options for doing this on an LS430 if you are interested in the MKi's music streaming feature. I know someone who installed an MKi9100 without using the music feature but that seems a waste. The phone call audio quality and background noise cancelling feature of the MKi9100 is amazing. My friend called me through his MKi9100 while driving on the highway and his voice was crystal clear without a hint of background noise.

Phone kits are generally fairly easy to install but it can take quite a bit of interior disassembly depending on where you want to locate components. The longest I've taken on the few I've done is 12 hours!
