Default Engine oil color

I just purchased a 2002 LS 430. The first thing I did was check the oil and it is a reddish brown color. Looks like transmission oil. I am sure I am checking the right dipstick. Does anyone know if this could be synthetic oil? Or maybe just an indication that it needs changing. Car has 114,000 mi and has been serviced by Lexus dealer.

Thanks,
Harry

Change it immediately - no telling what is in there.

While you are at it, since you just bought the car I'd change all the fluids (unless you have receipts proving something was just changed). Much better to start fresh and know exactly what you have in terms of fluids.

People have been known to put some crazy stuff into a car they know they are selling.

just to make sure, you are using the Yellow dipstick to check the oil right? Either way, an oil change doesn't cost too much and you'll have peace of mind for atleast 5,000 miles
