Haha, gotta say it's awesome how everybody freaked the hell out for their LS430's. ;D
When I was graduating high school, I was in between getting a 2009 300C SRT-8, or buying the LS430. I ended up buying the Lex, thank god for that, after my father preferred it to be a way more classier car+more reliable+prestigious and lots lots of stuff.
Today, I thank god for being pursuing happiness in the Lexus world, instead of being stuck with a fake plastic car.
They guy gave you a look because he knows the Lex is older but still more classier That's ok.

I have test driven a 300 and it drove like a heap. I felt every piece of gravel. The interior felt like cheap, almost transparent plastic. Nothing about the car was nice. Even the squished windows were problematic as they cause serious blind spot issues.
Just recently I began having quite a few drivers try to blow by me or leave me behind from a light. They have no clue how powerful my LS is. Anyway, I have to wonder how much of this ignorance of the cars prowess it the misinformation of other car commercials trying to say Lexus is boring and sleepy. A BMW, Buick, Honda, Infiniti, Hyundai and Kia all were left in my dust and I didn't even drop the mileage to do it. If I clicked the power shift button they wouldn't even be a memory. Then again, my gas would be a memory.

I've driven quite a few 300s as I'm a big guy and I actually fit in them.
I like the frowny/badboy look, but they sure are built down to a price rather than up to a spec.
When I last visited the US (Florida, Sept 2016) I opted for a Fullsize rental and was told I'd be getting a 300.
What I actually got was a Ford Taurus which was altogether a nicer car :-) Not as good as my LS but a decent drive.
If you want to drive a really nasty 300, come over to Europe where the Chrysler 300D was popular with it's Mercedes 300D engine.
If you like diesels, it's a good engine, but the combination is awful.
