Default Drivers power door lock not working

Hi- 2002 LS430. Went to unlock drivers door with key fob and wouldn't unlock. opened door with key and found door wouldn't lock either using power switch on door handle. all other power locks work fine. fuse that controls power lock on drivers door is fine. all other functions controlled by that fuse are working fine. any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Jay

Door lock actuator. Mine went gradually. Work sometimes, not at others. Now it never works. Just the driver side. Dealer quoted $865.00 for repair.

No, I have a hard time with that kind of money for the repair. There are some good DIY threads on this fix, but I just don't have the confidence for it. I use the key and it's a major pain in the butt for me. I'm still looking for a good solution. Maybe I'll just have to break down and do it.

While i didnt break my actuator (the door lock cable), taking off the panel is to difficult. Take your time and make sure you pull out the 4 screws on the bottom of the door, the 1 in the vent (imagine where the mirrors bolt on to), 1 behind the door opener (pop the cover off) and 1 located in the middle of the door (look underneath the arm rest). The clips will come out pretty easily.

Once inside, have the windows rolled completely up and disconnected the rest of the electronics (window control, courtesy light, etc). Take out both screws for the window track and you should be able to wiggle the actuator out.

While it was a cable for me, entire process took about 1 hour to take everything apart (couldn't find all the screws), 20 min to wiggle the actuator out ,10 min to swap the cable, and another 30 min to put everything back together

Ok, I am all for dealers making an honest living but this just really burns me up that the dealer would charge so much for this... I had to replace my rear passenger inner door handle unit as well as a new door handle cable for the driver's door and think I have a few pictures of doing this. The parts were pretty cheap - a few dollars for the cable and I think $40 for the inner door handle unit. Not sure which component failed for you - sounds like the cable became disconnected or a plastic piece that holds the cable ball in place broke (happened to my '01) but you should easily be able to diagnose when the door panel is off.

Are you kidding me? $865??
I just finished a DIY that might help you out with this:
