What type of Oil do you use?
#2
there are a million opinions on this. From what I have seen on sites like bob is the oil guy, pretty much any name brand oil will return very low wear numbers in our engines. Most important is to keep it changed every 5k or so rather than the brand you use.
Personally, I use Mobil 1 5W-30 sythetic becuase I have been using it for a long time in most of my cars and I always change the oil myself so it only costs me about $35 including new filter per 5k miles of driving.

I have been using mobil one like Balfor since 1986 put 529,000 miles on a 1986 Toyota Cressida and pulled the heads and still had the honing marks in the engine I now have a 1991 LS 400 261,000 and when I changed some of the lifters the enginer was a clear gold and looked like new I put the synthetic oil in my trans ps engine and rear end so far no problems my Cressida had 529,000 on the orignal trans, ps, rear end, and motor nothing wore out that is not to say that things won't wear out I was lucky and I changed my oil and still do at 10,000 to 15,000 now using mobil one extended service oil which will go 15,000 miles no problems according to Mobil Corp. If you take care of your Lexus LS 400 430 460 series it will last and last . I have seen 700,000 on a 1990 LS 400 with the same motor and several 400,000 and 500,000 miles on the ls 400

I hear alot about mobil 1 alot of customers at the shop I work at that drives a BMR or
A Benz and even a Lexus, they usually buy there own oil and ask us to put
It in and most of them use Mobil 1 so im guessing it's a popular brand but my honest opinion is I have been using castrol full synthetic or castrol edge full synthetic and i love
The way my Ls sounds after i do an oil change on it and for me as a mechanic even I feel of the car feels different meaning tfe way it runs feel really smooth. But everyone has there own preferences. And from what i hear is as long as you use any type synthetic is okay and make sure you use the right weight also.

i used to use penzoil platinum synthetic, but when penzoil ULTRA came out, i switched to that.... I cannot tell you enough how smooth the ride is and how good the engine sounds.. I have 180k on my LS and i change the oil just about every 6-7k miles....

I'm running w/e the dealer uses (1st oil change is free with CPO). No complaints. Car was always smooth as silk and I don't think it's possible to make any gasoline car any smoother (feels a lot like an electric car actually....). I'm probably going to keep using the dealer for my 5k services as I'll be pretty busy these next few yrs.

Since 125K, I've switched to M1 extended, from regular M1, and now on a 10K change interval. The oil looked great during the first 10K change, which was about month ago. I hope my strategy works out.

I used to change the oil in my SC400 at 3750 miles (I grew up on a farm where we changed the oil in cars and trucks at 2000 miles) and other engineers would ask if I would give them the oil I drained out!
Not trying to find fault in your changing at 2500 miles, it just shows how dedicated and caring you are with your car.

Looking at todays Wal Mart paper I see my Valvoline syn for 8 bucks more than the Valv dino oil at 23 bucks for 5 quarts. I see Mobil 1 for 23 bucks for 5 quarts.
For me I get real good deals from the dealer for Toyota syn for like 35 bucks an oil change and on my LS I bring in the jug and they charge me 11 bucks plus they give em a wash.
it seems synthetic is not that much more than dino at the right garage/store and I have to change it less often.
2500 oil changes is not that good for the environment, though who knows what they do when it is recycle it?
