Other then the few modern features and updates...............heated steering wheel, power side shades, power trunk lid, there is nothing I like more on the 460 then my 430. I am hoping the next gen LS500 will be a slam dunk like the new ES350. Cause I am skipping the 460 for sure.

I agree with those who prefer the 430 over the 460. I could afford either one but I chose the 430. After my mother in law bought a 460 my choice was confirmed as the right one for me. Hoping the next LS will fulfill my expectations because I am in the same camp as Slvr Surfer... As much as I love my 430, one day it will eventually have to be replaced.

We were out in Phoenix last week for some vacation - we rented a 2012 Avalon Limited for the week - almost brand new, had 1,100 miles on it. Averaged 24.6mpg. It was a really nice car. Extremely comfortable seats. I especially liked the back up camera screen embedded in the rear view mirror- excellent design. Given the cost differential I might get 1 year old Avalon instead of a 07-08 LS460 if I suddenly had to replace my LS430.

The interior room in the 460 is smaller. The 430 was more spacious and in my opinion classier looking. The 460 does have some great features such as heated steering wheel, power side shades etc, however, it does not ride as nice as the 430.
I would give up the shades and power lid to have the 430 ride back

I'm very glad to see this thread as I'm considering changing my LS430 for a 460.
I have a car service business here in the UK and my feeling was that the 430 is more suitable as it looks more the part; I'm glad to hear that it's also roomier.
My wife wants a 460 saying that the 430 is "an old man's car" and she likes the 460's sportier looks.
I think my mind is made up - very tempted by the extra 100bhp but considering I cruise around with very gentle throttle openings at 1500rpm most of the time I guess that's silly.

old mans car, possibly, but to me its just a luxury ride pure and simple.
can you all think of any new cars that are actually aiming for the luxury ride as their target objective? other than that new big cadillac sts/dts and the merc S (even this is kinda sporty now) class i really can't think of one that is still keeping the luxury ride on the top of their agenda. most all of them to me seem to be going the sporty handling route... i think it all started when infiniti took away the Q and made the M (V8) their flagship. then jag followed and even cadillac with their new smaller sportier sedans.
i just want a big luxo boat to cruise around in, i know i can't be the only one¿

Performance wise, the difference between the 2 is very negligible. And like you said, most people don't speed in a LS.
I think at the end, is all about which looks you prefer more. The modern updated sporty sleek look, or the old stately proper full size sedan look.

And while I fully concede that it's no S65 or 760 sport, it's hardly a Lincoln. It's more on the soft side, but it handles quite well actually. It's very precise in everything it does. It all meshes quite well together, IMO. Especially if pure luxury is what you primarily seek, which I know I sure as hell did/do. It's not a floaty panther Town Car.
